Picked up Golfie the #BoardGame at Gen Con from @hachettebgusa.bsky.social. The box made me think it'd be like Duck and Cover (one of my faves). It's not quite that... goal is to arrange cards with low values on top row or create rows/columns of matching value (combo!). Low score wins, natch!

3x3 card grid with a character card to the side (a cartoony mustached individual wearing a jaunty cap and diamond patterned shirt). A few of the grid cards are flipped face up with numbers on them... 3/4/6. In the center are stacks of cards - face down with a golf ball on the back... and then a messy discard pile with more numbered cards. To the left is a score sheet showing 18 columns divided into two 9 rounds (ie 18 holes of golf) The art is bright and cartoony and all golf related.

Two comments on a YouTube Thunder Road Ignition trailer

Impressive trailer but it answers none of the questions it brings forth? If this is a new expansion, what new stuff is it adding? If it's a standalone new variant, how different is it from the OG? Is it compatible with everything that came before? 🤨 All the questions, none fo the answers.

There is no information in this trailer. I don't even know what that was

#StrangeSlotSimulator! This パーティ太郎 game from Hobby Japan is wild. I enjoyed it much more than the rest of the group... but I like weird stuff 😅. Decks of cards have slot icons, you rapidly look at 3 cards, shuffle, look at 3 more etc to try and determine which machine the deck is. #BoardGames

a 6 section player sheet. Each section has rows with slot machine icons like bells, cherries, and watermelon. A player aid and privacy shield stands upright and shows 6 slot machine icon distribution charts. You can see some of the slot machine card stacks on the table.

5 player game of Wingspan Pocket... it was the first game I rushed to buy at Gen Con. Gotta be honest, after just one play, I see this getting played more often than Wingspan around here. It's smooth and fast, plays 1-5, and is very affordable and portable. #BoardGames

Row of cards - a nest card with my yellow bird meeple and an egg... followed to the right by 6 bird cards, some with a few eggs, some with other bird cards tucked underneath them. Below that is the reserve area with the player aid card and a couple of worm resource cards. (the cards have resources on the back and birds on the front so they're multi use)

In the center of the table is a messy card market with 4 stacks of resources and 4 bird cards available plus a little container of eggs.

Lots of folks, rightfully, calling out the "here's the happy murderer and his victims" nature of the lead photo. Meanwhile, me, an AsAm #adoptee is just processing how the story opens... 🥚

Roughly a week before she was killed along with her six children, Amanda Karolkiewicz of Grand Haven Township posted TikTok videos of a trip she took to China earlier this month with her two daughters, sharing photos of her with her girls dressed up in traditional Chinese clothing and trying different cuisine.

Her daughters, Ella and Caroline, both 11 and adopted from China, appear with her smiling, their hair, clothing and makeup all done in a Hanfu style.

"What an awesome experience with my precious daughters," she wrote along with one video, posted on July 16. "We are so proud of their Chinese heritage."

Honeypot the #BoardGame hit the table. Lighter weight set collection with a "I stack, you push your luck" approach. I want to try a house rule letting the original player keep/swipe their cards if the folder makes it back to them. But maybe @fanfactories.bsky.social tested that and it didn't work?

Good Intel (3 points and 3 bonus points for a set), honey comb (3 points but the bad bee swarm comes to you), codebook (7 points if you get 2) and a honey dipper. The colors are vibrant and the art style is pretty with a bright colored pencil texture appearance.

Wordsy in play. My player board has 4/7 of the words written in so far - champing 12 pts, differentiating spelled wrong 22 pts, Trafficking 20pts, and Labyrinth 26 points.

One of the best and most fun Ironclad runs I've ever had.

run recap screen for the Ironclad in Slay the Spire 2. 48 levels at Ascension 5. Shows a 23 card deck with almost every card upgraded. Deck played out that a big attack could play for free at the end of turn, defense first card doubled, and there was a lot of auto draw. after a few 1 cost foundation cards got played in a combat - it was a very swift end for every enemy.

Also exploring #Torchlit from @allplay.bsky.social. Is it a trick-taker? A dungeon delve driven by trick-taking card play? The card-match to move and the loser leads elements are definitely interesting. #BoardGames

part of the "dungeon" row with cardboard placards that look like dungeon doors each numbered in sequence. There are player pawns - custom wood meeples - on a few of the placards. Below there are columns of cards below each door in various colors/suits... but the value of the cards match the value of the dungeon door they're below.

I ended up liking World Order a lot more than I thought I would. It took a few hours to play... but it didn't feel super heavy. Plus, I won. :) #BoardGames

World Order board in round 5 of 6. The board has a simply map of sorts with areas over continents marked off with squares for cards related to the zone and for area control cubes and tanks and engagement tokens. In the distance you can see my opponent's EU player board with markers on his resource tracks.

Pattern (I think it’s Rock Garden from Barker) calls to continue the stripes to end. I knit it up once before and ran out of the assigned pooling yarn too and finished it with a short rib band. It’s… fine. I think linen stitch might look nice but linen can be a slog to knit.

Knit shawl with garter stripes in olive greens and cream with scattered clusters of small purple bobbles. The border is a simple 2x2 green ribbing.

Need help picking a shawl border! Ran out of the pooling yarn… so need to finish with ~3” of either pink or blue. Pink or Blue? Garter, Linen, or Rib stitch border? #knit #knitting

A garter stitch triangular bias shawl using the assigned pooling technique. Stripes of navy and pink alternate with stripes of variegated cream yarn with speckles of green. There are splurts or dark coral that are knit into wee bobble triplets.

There is a loose ball of the pink and the of the navy lying on top.

Friends taught me Origin Story. Superhero themed trick-taking with player abilities. Most importantly - you choose to play as a hero or villain each round. You're a VILLAIN if you go nil. Muhahahaa!!! My nil-loving heart sings with eeeeeeeevil. #BoardGames are weird. I love them.

Dr Knizia's #WildMagic from @gameheadgames.bsky.social is a straightforward rummy-like set collection game. The base game is a simple entry-level game. Adding the ability token levels it up. Wide player count, nothing "never seen before" but perfectly pleasant. (I also lost this one 😅) #BoardGames

in the foreground my meager collection of cards in sets. Sets are by color with various number of cards in each and cards have 1 or 2 of the color icon on them. The green set has a chunky wooden leaf token on it and the yellow set has a wood token that I think is an apple but might be a nugget on it. in the background is a long thin cardboard placard with the color icons going blue/green/yellow/orange/red/purple with ability placards above and one remaining group of orange cards below the orange slot. Across the table you get a small view of the collection of the other wooden tokens my opponent collected.

#TrinketTrove from @gameheadgames.bsky.social is a wee delight. The bid system is light and smooth. The set collection has some interesting variability to values that make for compelling decision moments. 2-6p for $20? No brainer. Plus the modern Beatrix Potter style art is charming. #BoardGames
