Action Committee for Transit
@actfortransit
We advocate for more & better transit; streets safe for everyone; & housing & land use policies to make this possible. A Montgomery County, Maryland, built for people and not for automobiles.
This Rapid Response Flashing Beacon (RRFB) across Congressional Ln is ineffective because it does not solve the underlying problem: Congressional Ln is comically wide.
This Rapid Response Flashing Beacon (RRFB) across W Edmonston Dr is mostly good, although it does not account for drivers turning right from the Woodmont Park apartments or the Wintergreen Plaza shopping center.
Police did not say it's 1000 feet between marked crosswalks, but it seems relevant.
Waited six months for his lunch to arrive at First Prize Mike's in Schenectady.
MoCo MD people - want to do a small thing that makes a difference? Attend this on-line public hearing to say YES to sidewalks around the Manchester Place Purple Line station! Don't let the NO folks (if any) be the only ones there! (You might also ask why there has to be a public hearing for this.)
It seems like for a while, MCDOT and MD SHA were putting in HAWK signals when they thought they needed to do *something* but they also thought they couldn't justify a regular traffic signal, based on cost and/or a signal warrant. 📷2009 MUTCD because that was the version at the time.
Springfield, Missouri, has this new HAWK signal on N Glenstone Ave (posted speed limit 40 mph/65 kph) north of US 66, which they are now ticketing pedestrians for not using. www.springfieldmo.gov/m/newsflash/...
It looks like that's a HAWK signal? This is MD SHA's new(ish) Alberto Duque Memorial HAWK signal across Layhill Rd/MD182 at the Glenmont Shopping Center, near the Glenmont Metro station.

A: It is possible for people who live in cities to get their children to the doctor for check-ups without a car. Q: But what if I don't live in a city and I have to get my sick dog to the vet and the vet is 60 miles away and there's only one bus per day?
"The benefit of cars that comes from being able to get to the hospital quicker may only be relative to the poor suckers stuck in an ambulance while your personal cars are blocking up Manhattan."
Google Maps keeps suggesting Midcounty Hwy as a bike route (for example, from the Gaithersburg library to Shady Grove Metro). No. Absolutely not. No. Never. No no no no no.
The intersection of Miller Fall Rd & Midcounty Hwy is 1000 feet from the entrance to Shady Grove MS. Midcounty Hwy has no sidewalks. (Neither does Miller Fall Rd.) Midcounty Hwy is a designated school zone.
"You're going to have a difficult time convincing families with young children to give up car culture and take more public transit if you also refuse to" provide sidewalks and safe road crossings at bus stops. Just saying.
"It's ok to park in the bus lane if I turn the hazards on" is a thought that some people with cars think.
Who would describe this intersection as safe for people crossing to or from the bus stop?

"Consider wearing a well-fitting face mask outside if you have a respiratory condition" and also if you don't, yet. There is no such thing as DIY-ing public health, though.
Yes, and better train service for Roanoke would also be good.
