Oh absolutely flesh. EMPHATICALLY flesh. Egregiously flesh. Flesh and the rearranging thereof is Dollmaker's entire schtick. This is not secret lore, this is the entire premise of the thing. (Art by @linorbynight.bsky.social )

Dollmaker (a black creature seen from the back here) cheerfully attaching a ribbon to a maid apron. For Jigen, much of his life had felt like a long, boring train ride that made him keep looking at his watch and wondering how much longer he'd have to put up with it. He didn't have the kind of active urges that made a man eat his own bullets, but the kind that made you a little less interested in avoiding certain death than you otherwise might be. Lupin made him look forward to the next thing in a way no one else had in years, a realization he'd had while dodging yakuza machine gun blasts and the thought 'I can't die today, I have to go steal diamonds with Lupin next Wednesday' dropped into his head.

Lupin was a good thing in his life and that made him paranoid, because nothing good came without strings.

Summary:
Bakool Ja Ja, two minds that share a body and an identity, has an existential crisis after meeting Zoraal Ja's abandoned son and gets drunk on the palace roof. Koana has to talk the Blessed Sibling pair down off the roof and clean up the mess they've made, and in the process discovers Bakool Ja Ja's poorly hidden crush on him.

From one drunken conversation, consequences ensue - across species, size, hierarchy, experience, and a *lot* of daddy issues.

Okay, this is interesting. It's implying that blue magic isn't *just* the Whalaqee magic craft, but something he's worked in with his outside magical knowledge to synthesize something different. Also interesting: the cut on that shirt, woof.

Masterin' all those magicks was the only way the wisdom of the Whalaqee could be fully realized in blue magic.

Even so, if I'm to be a true master of the blue, I can't fall back on all them other spells I've learned now, can I?

So I get the joke is that Martyn is a failboy and incompetent and a pushover. I get that this has always been the joke. I just don't think it's ever a joke that's actually funny, especially when it's his alleged friends who don't respect or support him either.

Martyn: Seein' as that's not physically possible, I'm afraid I'll have to decline.
Royse: Is that so? Pity, that. I was considering appointing you showmaster had you succeeded.
Royse: Naturally, that would include three percent of profits for all of their appearances at the Celestium, but if you've no interest...
