Come on a little journey to see the progress of our little guest house. This was once a ruin that had been overgrown with plant life and we completely rebuilt and resurrected it. It’s about two weeks from completion. Farm workers and livestock used to be housed here 200yrs ago.

In the same vein, I really enjoy making Mexican Tepache. As you are peeling a pineapple, you take all the bits. You would normally toss away and ferment them over a few days in a jar to make a naturally carbonated beverage, which makes an amazing margarita.
What I like on TikTok is the wholesome content that I never would have sought out or discovered, for example kitchen and gardening topics. I recently saw a video about taking the tops of strawberries that you would normally throw away and use them to make strawberry syrup.
OMG so much lavender this year it’s crazy. Gonna be a lot of work harvesting it at the end of the summer. And this is just one of the areas where it’s growing.

One of the worst aspects of what’s happened to News is illustrated in Apple news where nearly all of the articles are really just commercial offerings with links to products on Amazon. It’s hard to enjoy reading any article because it’s just an ad.
It’s already 90/32° here in Italy at 11 AM. I suspect it will be another hot one. Thinking about what’s going on in the United Kingdom and the way their houses are built, there’s going to have to be a rethinking of how temperatures are handled. Here’s my internal temps which will keep cool all day.
Last night we had a dinner party and I introduced Italians to Mexican flavors, inspired by the Mediterranean. I made sopes with sliced zucchini from the garden, guacamole with peppers, topped with homemade kohlrabi pickles, and a fried squash blossom on top. Later I served a chicken mole.
One thing I didn’t expect to enjoy in Italy is introducing Italians to other food cultures. I’ve lived all over the world and there are foods that are very hard to find here in Italy. Tomorrow we’re having a small dinner party where I will serve a chicken mole and Al pastor sopes.
This motherfucker is involved in everything, and when the investigations begin, he should be in the Top 5 list.
So I’ve kind of fallen in love with pickling, which led me to falling in love with vinegar, and now I’m thinking of making my own vinegar. I’ve recently started making refreshing sodas that have a splash of vinegar in them, and even cocktails. Who knew?
How’s everybody’s gardens going right now? This is our first garden in Italy. It’s producing amazingly well in the hot Italian sun. Yesterday I got some great zucchini, today some zucchini flowers, which I’m going to fry up into a manchego quesadilla. Also harvested some celery & more strawberries.
