Well shit, I've been caught by some rage bait. But seriously, this is grimly funny syntax from the NYT.

A paragraph from the NYT under the subhead "The death has come up in the race for governor."
"Wisconsin Democrats will select their candidate for governor in less than three weeks, and the primary has been chaotic. An establishment front-runner recently left the race, and a state legislator who is a democratic socialist, Francesca Hong, is polling well, raising questions about how she would fare in the general election." I have double underlined "is polling well" and single underlined the dubious conclusion "raising questions about how she would fare in the general election."

Love him!! He reminds me of this passage from The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner where the mariner realizes how magical the sea creatures are.

His article argues so articulately against what he did!

"Over time, the models may well improve and correct some of these behaviors, but it was recently argued that as long as LLMs are used in research, these errors will always exist. LLMs work not by seeking truth or through logical reasoning but by making probable connections. And efforts to improve these programs to avoid unwanted behaviors may be all for naught because LLMs tend toward sycophantic behavior that keeps the user engaged."

I know enshittification of customer service predates LLMs/"AI," but things really seem to be accelerating. The below are from a typed exchange with USAA, not over audio, so there's no explanation for the apparent "mishearings"; also, I never once mentioned "Zelle" or "payments" in the exchange.

I made this photo from May Day my phone background and it brings me so much joy.

I just don't think you can ever promote your institutional integrity while putting important news alongside robber baron lifestyle stories like this. It degrades the journalism so much and gives away the game that this is a business, not a public service, and one that caters to the selfish wealthy.

While I was trying to do my research on this to respond to your post (I still don't get the Central neighborhoods and I live just west of them), I came across this cursed map. AI is a scourge.

A map of Minneapolis, with each of the neighborhoods marked with a different color corrolating to a legend with the correct neighborhood names. However, In labels in the middle of each neighborhood on the map itself is the name of a different Minneapolis suburb or MN city. SW is labeled "Eden Prairie, Philips is labeled "Rice Lake," Longfellow is labeled "Fridley," etc.

Yes. Minneapolis is beautiful right now in many ways that are very difficult to capture and broadcast (but it’s still worth trying when you can do so safely!).

I know that "legacy media should bring back copyediting and ethics, which are intertwined" is not a winnable fight, but in case anyone out there is interested in doing journalism, this could easily be recast so it doesn't reinforce disinformation, and you don't even have to add "without evidence"!

A nice thing: I was always between "meh" and 👎 on sunflowers until moving to South Minneapolis. But it's impossible not to love them here—they're such a wild, beautiful, integrated part of the urban landscape, and, while I can't 100% explain it, I feel like they have good politics.

I really believe that the remarkable prominence of this story on the NYT. com front page in a time of fascist collapse is part of the story of how we got here. All criticism/fury directed at the editorial decision-making, not the writer, who I'm sure is trying to make ends meet in a dying profession

Happy to oblige, though it's kind of hard to capture without a drone (!). I should note that it did not actually topple the soccer goal itself.
