I had been looking forward to this - but found it a terrible disappointment. Laboured, mean-spirited, nonsensical, not funny - and very, very dated. I’ve read a lot of 70s British comic fiction lately and this is definitely the weakest #booksky
Very pleased my piece 'Crude' (from the bigger piece Precious Things) is having another outing, courtesy of Hemiola. They are a really brilliant young vocal consort and well worth hearing. It's in Cambridge on Saturday 4 July - tickets available now!

I'm really pleased my 'Perhaps' is being sung next Friday 5 June by the brilliant new Manchester-based Somnium Chamber Choir as part of their 'Songs of Renewal' programme. I'm sorry I can't be there but would encourage anyone in the area to get tickets (available via Eventbrite).
Just finished this extraordinary book. It’s a rigorous scientific exploration of the health benefits of participating in the arts, and deserves to be widely read and its message taken on board by government and the health service. Also full of practical advice on benefiting from the arts day to day

Just finished this brilliant novel - having rationed myself to a few pages a night as it was so enjoyable. A long book that earns every page. Thoroughly recommended. A tragedy this was to be Harry Thompson’s only novel
