Monsoon moisture reaches western/southern Colorado this week (good news for the Ferris/Gold Mountain fires in particular), starting as soon as tomorrow. Denver/NE Colorado will have to wait longer, but it's finally visible on the 7-day (next Monday). #COwx
Ominous view of the Fishhook fire, taken today from Hwy 40 right as you enter Steamboat Springs. There are no evacuations for this fire though, and Hwy 40 (Rabbit Ears Pass) remains open. Fire is currently 94 acres with no containment, and it's about 7 miles SE of Steamboat. Photo: Brian Dusek
Today marks Denver's 22nd day at 90°+ this year, 13th-most year-to-date on record. Puts us on pace for ~55 days at 90°+. Gonna pile these 90-degree days up over the next 7-10 days. #COwx

5:46p: Strong 50+ mph winds, small hail, brief downpours moving through the east and south metro area. These are gonna make it a mess flying out of the airport over the next hour or so… #COwx
Continues to look promising that Colorado (west of the Continental Divide, primarily) will get its first solid push of monsoon moisture later next week/next weekend. Exact impacts still TBD in the 7-10 day window, but it should bring the mountains some beneficial rain. #COwx
Good news: Looks like yesterday’s rain helped firefighters get notably more containment on both the Aspen Acres (28%) and Willow (22%) fires. #COwx
🌦️ Mostly sunny with a chance for a brief gusty storm between 2-6p. Best odds south + east of Denver. High near 90°. 🌡️ Drying out and heating up tomorrow and this weekend, with highs in the mid-upper 90s this weekend. Highs approach 100° early next week. #COwx

This was Colorado's hottest first half of a year on record...and it wasn't even close. Average statewide temp of 46.2° (NCEI data) made this our hottest January-June on record by more than a full degree. The impact of a warming climate is clear in the chart below. #COwx

Looks like the Willow Fire just had a really healthy downpour (likely 0.1"+ of rain), but some gusty winds there as well. Leadville Airport just gusted to 53 mph. Hope this means good news for firefighters. #COwx
NEW: Excessive Heat Watch for much of western Colorado for this weekend, including Grand Junction/Western Slope. Temps up to 105-108° there this weekend. For context, Grand Junction's hottest temp on record is 107°. #COwx
Storms will mainly be 1-6p, probably a bit stronger and more widespread today compared to yesterday. A slight 10-20% chance for a metro area storm after 6p, due to colliding outflow boundaries. Bring the rainjacket just in case tonight. #COwx
⛈️ Slightly 'cooler' with a high in the upper 80s, with a good (60%) chance for showers and storms between 1-6p. Hail, gusty winds the main threats. 🌦️ Warmer with a lower (30%) chance for storms tomorrow before a much hotter/drier weekend. #COwx

Main threat with today's storms are 70+ mph winds. Primary threat will be just east of Denver, but a chance for 1-2 storms with 50+ mph winds in town as well. 1-6p main window. I'd anticipate some flight impacts this afternoon. Isolated large hail risk, mainly east of Denver. #COwx
