Oh they fight. They’re still a bit territorial, especially when one of the waves of salmon slows down. Some have spots they like and will chase off anyone who tries to steal it. Mamas are still protective of cubs. It’s very relaxed but still a little on edge.
Thing is, there’s an emancipated 2.5 year old in Brooks that got adopted by a sow with a spring cub, so there’s an actual Brother Bear situation going on!
One of my views in Katmai National Park last week. Count the bears! The salmon are coming in and the bears are hungry!
Southwest flight to Anchorage was delayed by four hours so they’re giving us free beer.
