It's totally possible to create a dark mood without having to hide everything in darkness. But it would require hiring people to handle lighting design and despite budgets being far bigger now than they ever were before for TV and Film, apparently it's too expensive to hire experts.

The #Lackadaisy fandom is insane. "Last Call" was only released last year in October and it's broken 1.3million streams on Spotify alone. Getting 100 people to listen to an indie artist these days is tough, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has listened.

Dispelling some myths about making music perpetuated by social media - this is both for people who don't know how music making works as well as those who make music but let social media make them feel inadequate.

A peek behind the social media for musicians veil:
- If someone is playing a keyboard and a fully produced orchestra is coming out of it, there's a 98% chance they're miming it in post. If it sounds mildly realistic, that jumps up to 100%. Sample instruments aren’t that good and getting things to sound reasonable takes A LOT of work. The idea that it can just be farted out on a keyboard undermines the amount of effort it takes.
- If a producer is frantically tweaking knobs live while someone is in the middle of a take, they are 100% faking it for the cameras. You set levels before recording, and tweak stuff afterwards. People love to see action, but that’s not how recording sessions actually work.
- If the lighting or footage is good, it’s probably not real or at the very least, not nearly as spontaneous as you might think. NOBODY thinks “I want to work on some music, better set up my cameras”. No shade - the need to promote is real, but I hate how social media has made the whole process seem instantaneous and easy as if you just hit record and then music pours out of you in real time. Behind nearly every seemingly candid video is planning and practice.
- Any behind the scenes footage of a composer at work where they look mildly presentable and/or the footage is even a little bit interesting is faked. Most composers don’t livestream working on scores partially due to NDAs, but mostly because it would be really boring to watch.

Dorico's pretty slick. I'm still not really sold on the whole "flow" thing (great if you're working in movements, annoying if not), and I need to figure out how to deal with titles and miscellaneous text in the "Engrave" mode better, but I think I'm fully sold on using this for notation.

On Tuesday, Schaffer made strange X posts about his family being “kidnapped” and claimed the FBI was out to murder him, prompting worries on the right that he himself had hurt or endangered his own family.

In a mark of how twisted the online right has become, far-right YouTuber Jean-François Gariépy, whose own wife disappeared under mysterious circumstances in 2023 and was never found, wondered openly whether Schaffer was smart enough to murder his spouse without being discovered.

“Poor Elijah,” Gariépy asked. “Does he have the brains to get away with it?”

I wish we had more historical accounts of Hieronymous Bosch's life. Was his food or water tainted with some sort of hallucinogenic fungus or something? Was he the lone surviving artist of a group of medieval surrealists? Was he a literal time traveler?

I admittedly did not let the test run all the way through, but ~30 hours into the process, I had 7.9gb of verifiable data, and 704.9gb LOST on a 1tb card. Suffice to say I will be testing ebay's return policy. Testing a 512gb card next. So far 7.4gb of verified data, 25.6gb lost. I've been had.

1 billion is already an unfathomable amount of money. When people are MULTI billionaires, it's ludicrous. If billionaires started funneling more of their mountain of gold towards efforts that actually benefit the public, maybe they wouldn't be hated so much. Which might benefit them in the long run.

I know I'm an old man shouting at the clouds at this point because youtubers and influencers are going to do what they're going to do, but holding lavalier mics not only looks stupid, it causes popping/'plosive effects that wouldn't be an issue if you used the mic the way it was designed to be used

That, the Behringer FCB-1010 pedals, a laptop, and homebrew patches/software made the backbone of my electro-acoustic ambient sets back in the day (usually with cello or guitar, but sometimes bowed cymbals, and a piano at my senior recital). I haven't found cheap faders/knobs since.

I really miss my old UC-33e. It was made from super cheap plastic, the faders had a short throw and had the tendency to pop off in backpacks, it sometimes got glitchy, and you could brick it if you dropped it, but just having a set of cheap faders AND knobs was super handy.

Newest studio addition!!! If I’ve ever been accused of lacking in bass, this should take care of that 😈 Protip: There’s no on/off switch, so if you don’t want to constantly plug and unplug the synth, get an inline on/off switch adapter for the power supply.
