Stitching finished! I've never done something with this dense an aida so I'm going to (for once) be sensible and do a test before I put a felt back on rather than bodging and hoping for the best, because I don't trust this to be as fray-resistant and like... 14 count, but nearly there.

Lot of things to like about The Mulai by Munir Hachemi, but the translator’s notes are definitely up there. Julia Sanches is right and should say it.

25 Note from the English translator: The term binomio, in Spanish, refers not only to the mathematic expression but to a military practice, namely, the formation of groups of two soldiers who do everything together. This practice is still au courant in Spain, as of the time of translation. Unhelpfully, and inelegantly, this arrangement is referred to as ‘battle buddies’ in English.

My little treat, once I've written up my LotR posts, is to read the Jared Pechaček ones on the same chapters from his patreon, that have built up a slightly terrifying backlog in my inbox. I am somewhat amused that we had very similar reactions to the section about the power of storytelling.

During a break, they have that famous conversation about the stories that really matter. I admit I am unmoved by this, except for “Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam.” I have been vocal, here and elsewhere, about my antipathy towards stories that congratulate themselves on being stories. While it feels like a conversation these characters in these settings would logically have, and while they aren’t going wow storytelling is a special magic or whatever, I still hate this kind of thing. Your mileage may vary. Indeed, it almost certainly does: This is one of the most quoted parts of Tolkien, and it is beautifully written. I’m just hollow at heart, like an evil willow.
