as I crash out a little bit about the whole gutting of the esa... This is an Ashgay Paintbrush They're endemic to... just the San Bernardino Mountains. That's it. They're threatened, by habitat loss and degradation like a lot of the plants that grow in its rare habitat. #plants #shrubland

They are found in high elevation shrubland, Juniper-Pinyon forests and conifer forests in the San Bernardino County mountains.

They're a hemiparasite, favoring sagebrush and buckwheats. And they look cool and I like them.
They endangered, and some of their biggest threats are irresponsible off-roading and habitat loss from development and the encroachment of invasive plants.

uuuh, But, a slow loris was involved, echidna, seaturtle, dart frog, glass frog, and a discus. There was a few more, probably.

If I remember correctly, the components of this ugly lil guy were:
Some kinda bird, piranha, emu, pheasant, badger, kangaroo, hedgehog, peccary, and takin for coloration.

On the same note, why a Black Throated Sparrow? I actually really like them, I think they're a handsome sparrow. But, they're also a bit of a nemesis bird for me. The attached photos may be the best photos I have ever gotten on them. So drawing them... They're my default sparrow lol #birds #art

An adult and juvenile Black Throated Sparrow in a typical Western Mojave environment. Huge boulders, dead fiddlenecks, and invasive bromes.
The adult is easily distinguished by the bold white stripes on the face. Not pictured are eponymous black throat, absent in the juveniles.

A landscape I did for Transition Habitat. This place doesn't actually exist though. It's a made up landscape based on photos I took at Lost Lake, available photos of Puma Canyon, and my commute thru the San Gabriel Mountains. A representation of the ecotone~ #sciart #ecotone #scrubland #art

There is shallow, flowing, water in a sandy wash with some large rocks. The plantlife is mostly rabbitbrush and big sagebrush, but pines, deciduous trees, and joshua trees are visible going further back toward the scrub covered hills.

These plants communities combine in these spots between the biomes we more commonly think of, making them extremely biodiverse.

While this particular landscape is based on the Mojave-San Gabriel Mountain transition zone, this particular place doesn't actually exist. Instead, the image is based on Puma Canyon (Phelan, CA) Lost Lake (San Bernardino, CA) and the drive up Lone Pine Canyon (Lytle Creek, CA)
