Fuck it, here's me in a pre interview fit (for an upcoming Ebert piece), feeling myself for once
Revisiting 20TH CENTURY WOMEN for the first time since release; it... Might be a perfect motion picture? Such intricate, delicate textures, women teaching men what they think/hope men should be, bristling at the moments they fall short.
THE ODYSSEY: Lots to unpack here about Nolan revisiting the same concerns Nolan covered in OPPENHEIMER (Trojan Horse = Atom Bomb?), but it's mostly a grimly poignant epic. Also feels like Matt Damon on the other side of the war picture after SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. "Earn this."
Early was such a vulnerable, open book with me, and that came out especially in exchanges like these:
Tonight's Fourth of July movie marathon is brought to you by: Michael Bay's America.
What better way to close out a beach vacation with family than to pick up a book of nautical fiction written by *checks notes* Gene Hackman??
Congrats to my sister in law, who just got engaged today!🎉 🎊 🥳 🎇
Tonight's queer viewing: a film about committing self destruction by twink
About to revisit a high school ugly-cry sci-fi classic on honest to God film. God, I love the movies. @chicagocritics.bsky.social
That said, the nerd in me will never forgive Jamie (or anyone else on the panel) for this
Update: the hole they dug to install the drain cap is finally filled, and I want so bad to put a headstone here
Today, my wife Julia turns 35 (the Company year!) - we've been together for 15 whole ass years, through heaps of ups and downs and moves and deaths and promotions and pets and you name it. She's supported me through thick and thin, and I love her so much.
Sighted in the stall of a Chicago movie theater bathroom; maybe the kids are all right
Trying a little play with presentation a bit at C2E2 today (clipons; maybe a piercing can come later)
Taking tonight to do that rarest and goofiest of things: going to a concert of a band from your adolescence that you otherwise never engaged with
I cannot emphasize enough how the wacky old-age makeup they give these folks so that 40somethings can look 80 and 20somethings can look 50 is, to me, a feature and not a bug
Just in case you needed to see the end product: A black bean bolognese with beef, an Asian fusion versiony kidney of dish with ginger and black bean garlic sauce to help the bolognese get that deeper flavor without a whole lot of stewing. It's sooo good.
You know what's underrated? Cooking with wine while drinking the wine you're cooking with.
