His metallic black boots also sport multiple wing-like carvings.

Xinyi is holding a long, black sword in his left hand. A small crow (Corneille) is resting on Xinyi’s outstretched right hand, their wings are spread wide.

Both men have enigmatic smiles on their faces. Xinyi is directly facing the viewer, while Yao is standing slightly behind him and is facing towards the left side.

Like Aisling, Luce is wearing knee-high metallic boots. His are light green in color, with gold wing-like structures extending out of the armor covering the front part of the boot. He is looking over his shoulder and glaring at the viewer.

Luce’s shield, which is just as elaborate as his armor, is propped against a pillar behind the two of them. They appear to be standing in ruins.

Cover for Out of Memory - Chapter 5. It features Makoto Kurosawa (real name: Zhen Xinyi) sitting in a well-lit deck with Chinese-style windows, enjoying afternoon tea and snacks. The deck is several stories above ground, as the sky and the upper branches of a tree are all that’s visible through the open windows. In one of the panels, crows are shown flying in the sky.

Makoto is sitting at a wooden table. Both the table and the bench he’s sitting on have matching hand-carved decorations. He’s holding a teacup in his gloved right hand, and his left hand is partially hidden by the objects on the table. On top of the table is teapot and a plate of what seems to resemble real-life rice balls. His long bangs are covering his eyes, hiding most of his expression.

Makoto is wearing a fantasy version of traditional East Asian attire. Even if his outfit were drawn in full color, it would all be different shades of black and white. The collar of his outfit covers most of his neck and ends just below his chin. His long, white cape starts at the base of the collar and extends almost all the way to the ground. Since Makoto is sitting, a good portion of the cape is tucked away and to the side.

Makoto: I see.

From the Out of Memory - Prologue.

Princess Sheng Feng is shown falling from a great height, as the building she was hiding in is shown crumbling in the background. The brooch she wears at her waist emits a powerful light. Shortly after, a small white phoenix emerges from the brooch, and Sheng Feng reaches desperately for her. The phoenix grabs onto the back of Sheng Feng's collar, breaking her fall. They turn to face a large Chinese-style house, which has ominous wisps of smoke emanating from it.

Aisling is a young woman with wavy white hair and pink eyes with no pupils. She is wearing a black, gold, and white dress with a red sash around her waist. She's wearing a white cloak with a hood over her dress, paired with white metallic boots that extend past her knees. She is beckoning an unseen opponent to come at her, and is holding a tall scythe in her left hand.

Luce is a young man with wavy, strawberry-blonde hair and dark green eyes with no pupils. He is wearing an elaborate suit of green / dark green armor. There are numerous red gems in his outfit, and the belt around his waist resembles a crown. Two pairs of wing-like structures are incorporated into his suit, two on either side of his waist and two extending from his back. Luce is holding a broadsword in his right hand and seems to be about to use his Instance (a supernatural ability most characters in my verse have).

Their attacks would be OP under certain conditions. Jade Scorpion: Burst of flame 🔥. Deals critical damage to white collar criminals (ex. tax evaders, insider traders). No effect on law-abiding civilians. Yao: Opponent mysteriously falls ill. HP lost depends on his level of disdain towards them 🐍.

In Os, tax evasion is treated as a severe crime 😅. Jade Scorpion, one of the top politicians in the Realm, has been known to visit the worst offenders in-person....and rumor has it that he's incinerated a few of them 🔥. Needless to say, very little if any tax money gets wasted.

As a high-ranking prince from the Kurosawa Royal Family, his weapon and accessories are made out of real gold. The hilt of his sword is shaped like a scorpion, matching his sobriquet.

Full color digital art illustration with a detailed background (actually a comic page) from my Out of Memory webcomic. It is a dark fantasy and horror comic (with a tiny slice of sci-fi) about a pacifistic warrior and his journey to find the truth about his family.

Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference 🤣. Xinyi is already morally ambiguous and he knows how to cover his tracks. If he slid into villain territory, he'd essentially be using the same tactics as Yao. I can see him dialing up the ruthlessness if Jade Scorpion pushes him into a corner.

Digital black and white, manga-style illustration of Baiqiao Yuetu (白橋月兔, meaning "moon rabbit of the white bridge”), a character from my Out of Memory webcomic, imagined as a moon jellyfish. Drawn for MerMay, using Clip Studio Paint.

Yue appears to be a teenager, but is actually much older. She is a princess from the Baiqiao Royal Family, and has a subtle rabbit theme. She has medium-length white hair, which she wears in two long pigtails, and blue eyes with diamond-shaped white pupils.

Yue appears to be half-human, half-jellyfish. She is wearing a top with puffy, billowy sleeves. The lace-like decorations on her collar and top resemble the eyespots of moon jellyfish. Three raindrop-shaped blue jewels are embedded into the bottom of her top.

She is floating gracefully underwater, and there are several moon jellyfish swimming near her. The sun and clouds can be seen above her head, and numerous small bubbles are swirling around her.

18. Are you confident you are improving steadily? For sure. These are my first drawings of Xinyi and Aisling from 2019. Since then, I've improved in pretty much every aspect, from the line art to the outfit design xD.

17. Do you like to challenge yourself? Yes! Art styles evolve over time and it's fun to look back and see the improvements 😊. I love designing elaborate armors, experimenting with new techniques, finding different ways of demolishing and skimping on the backgrounds, etc 🤣.

9. Do you prefer to keep your art personal, or do you like drawing things for other people? Mainly personal, but I'm open to drawing and have occasionally drawn other people's OCs. Large fandoms are another story. I don't see the point of drawing fan art that the creator will never look at 😅.

6. What's your least favorite thing to draw? Backgrounds. They're difficult to design and take almost as much time to draw as a full-color illustration. Yet most people will only look at them for 2-3 seconds 😆. I love fight scenes where the attacks demolish the surroundings = no more BG 🤣.

4. What's your favorite thing to draw? Pretty characters - especially pretty men with long, flowing hair xD. They take forever to draw because I'm so picky about how they look, but the effort is worth it 😂.

3. How many classes have you taken? I've only finished one online art class - which culminated in the illustration below - from start to end 😅. P.S. As a software engineer I spend a lot of time learning outside of work - would rather learn drawing through practice than take even more classes xD.

1. Do you prefer traditional drawing, or digital? Digital. I used to make wire jewelry, the materials cost per piece was pretty significant. Also, if you're still learning, you'll likely need to use up some wire to practice / redo parts of the piece. I imagine it's similar for traditional art.

The gods in OOM are basically immortal sentient weapons. They are extremely powerful, but require avatars to use their full powers. There's no shortage of people who are willing to contract with the gods - even though some of them are known to be cruel / Darwinistic. Anything for power, right? 😅
