Key elements of the new rules include stronger transparency through public databases and labelling of NGT-1 seeds, clear limits on their use in organic production, and updated rules on patents to ensure fair access and protect farmers’ rights.
The new framework distinguishes two types of NGT plants: 🧬 NGT-1, with simple genetic modifications treated as conventional varieties. 🧬 NGT-2, with more complex changes that will remain subject to existing GMO legislation, including risk assessment and authorisation.
Europe's living a new NGTs legislation! 🌱🧬 Yesterday, the European Parliament adopted a regulation on New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) that marks an important step in aligning EU legislation with scientific advances in plant breeding.

Until now, predicting these signals has resulted in many false positives. 🔍 SPSignal goes one step further: it combines sequence analysis with 3D structure (AlphaFold) to detect genuine signals with greater accuracy.
💻 Scientists at CRAG (in collaboration with EPFL) have developed SPSignal, a tool that uses AI-based structural prediction to analyse the intracellular transport of proteins. A key platform for understanding fundamental processes… and also diseases 👇
💡 Resultado: menos errores, ahorro de tiempo en el laboratorio y más foco en lo importante. 👀 Además, permite visualizar proteínas en 3D de forma interactiva!
Hasta ahora, predecir estas señales generaba muchos falsos positivos. 🔍 SPSignal va más allá: combina secuencia + estructura 3D (AlphaFold) para detectar señales reales con mayor precisión.
