I made habanero jelly with the habaneros I grew and I am prouder of this than any writing I have ever done.
Deep summer—getting to my stack of books and this gem is up now—very, very good, and @marrrtha.bsky.social you rhymed these poems soooo gracefully.
I have always wanted to see Lake Superior. And now I have. I even swam in it. Someday maybe I will find the words for this. 💙
My dad, 1942. He was a PT sailor in the South Pacific during the Second World War. A very good dad.
Couldn’t be happier that now, in addition to algae, the blue epoxy paint is peeling off the bottom of the reflecting pool❤️🤍💙
To everyone in NY old enough to remember riding the little train up Mount Beacon as kids…the mountain has not forgotten us, and even though the structures are gone, the scar remains. A lot like my childhood.
Tonight in the Cuisinart, pesto with my home grown basil. Summer’s here. Even with all the insanity in the world, I am gonna savor this too-short season.
Baby bunny proofing…who knew wild rabbits like to eat newly planted roses? (Turns out everyone but me knew about this.)
The latte I needed on this cool, wet, and always pathological day in America.
I’m at the Unbound Book Fest in Columbia MO and I have come down with such a bad cold, I can’t attend anything😡I get sick every time I take a little vacation.

Look what arrived at my house today—Houses, signed by the poet, Nikki Wallschlaeger @nikkimwalls.bsky.social 🔥🔥🔥
A neighbor has put a flag out in the yard that says “RADICALIZED BY BASIC DECENCY” and in this ruby-town that is some real resistance!
I make tons of careless mistakes in writing. When I catch one, I’m always stunned—how was I so oblivious? I’ve never found a solution, except to retreat from important projects. Because the more important the project, the more egregious the mistake. I think I was meant to dig holes, not to write.
Cousins In the park in the Spring. Connecticut, circa 1965. My great grandfather in the middle. Me, top row, second from left. Happy Easter all!
I came to Bluesky originally with the intention of posting and connecting about poetry, nature, and gardening. My intention, dashed by politics; by my own lack of discipline. Maybe I will be able to find a way back, because I am sick of giving in to these bastards’ constant demand for attention.
No Kings, St. Peter’s MO, USA—today. We have to stay on public sidewalks and this line stretched a long way.
I’m so tired of proving myself and improving myself. Especially since the only person asking me to do this is…me.
The poet Sally Read recited my translation of a poem by St. Teresa of Ávila in an interview last week. The poem riffs on Teresa's vision—being speared by an angel—captured by Bernini. "He pierced me with an arrow smeared with the poison of love, and my soul succumbed to be one with its Creator."
