Topics are officially AI and an independent foreign policy - but it's an AMA so ask me anything!
The average ASX100 CEO was paid 55 times more than the average wage earner last year. They have designed a system to steal the world’s wealth from everyone else and they pay politicians to keep it that way. Time to take back control of our economy, and politics.
Iranian tolls bad, Trumpian tolls good, bombing for peace and all things 2026. Australia, and the world, needs leadership now, not a bunch of tragic Trump-lite followers who won't say the blindingly obvious truth. The US is dangerous and the parts of the world that want freedom need to push back.
Remember when Albanese said “We want to see the Strait of Hormuz opened and we want to see no privatisation and no tolls." I wonder if he meant just no Iranian tolls but he’s super OK with Trump tolls? Let’s wait and see.
When did signing up to Instagram become consent for Meta to use your face for AI?
Renters need a break. Its time for a national rent freeze.
Within 15 minutes Trump announced the end of the ceasefire in Iran with fresh attacks, threatened to invade Greenland (again) and threatened Spain. That’s not an ally, that’s an erratic bully.
No institution should be able to move assets beyond survivors' reach and call it good governance. I've referred these Christian Brothers asset transfers to the AFP and ACNC for investigation. Survivors have waited long enough.
Third, the complainants deserve a measure of justice. You can see from the Inspector’s brief report that there was a matter of real substance to the complaints, as this snapshot regarding the second of them demonstrates
The ABC is running these two stories in the same 24 hour news cycle. No wonder people don’t trust government. AI oligarchs are marching through our economy and Labor is buying their boots for them.
It is in the interests of every country that touches the Pacific to deescalate the regional arms race and to oppose this kind of militarisation. It is also long past time to join the push to ban nuclear weapons.
Amnesty International has called for Dr Hussam Abu Safiya to be released from Israeli prison for months. His life and health are at risk after horrific detention and abuse. Australians who worked in Gaza have told me how doctors are targeted. Australia must call for his release.
Talking AUKUS, and an independent Australian Defence and Foreign policy, over some chips and beer at Wallsend today. Also how to organise so that the Hunter doesn't follow Labor’s plan and switch from exporting coal to exporting weapons.
Greens Bushwalking Club took on Mount Sugarloaf on Awabakal country this morning. A delightful 5km and a bit circuit through mix of angophoras, Gymea lilly's (called Minmi in Awabakal) and wattle. Walking and talking nature and peace, great start to any Sunday.
A very packed day in the inquiry into youth justice today - will be asking about what the role of the Federal Government is, how we stop torture of kids in State and Territory prisons, and how investing in communities can end the youth justice crisis.
Part of the reason we pushed this motion was to take the burden off the complainant who has been gagged by the OAIC. That should never have happened. We will keep pushing for answers and something that looks more like justice.
There must be justice. The world cannot ignore the Israeli genocide in Gaza and people who committed it must be held to account. Essential accountability and solidarity work from the Australian Centre for International Justice. @rawanarraf.bsky.social
If the support internally is so strong why are they so afraid of debate? It’s because AUKUS, which is led and directed by the US, is a strategic surrender to Washington. The truth is, AUKUS is about as patriotic as Pine Gap, no matter how hard Labor spins it.
In Labor's mind 'patriotism' is handing over billions in public funds, defence & foreign policy to the US. And being 'progressive' is gutting funding for people with a disability and veterans healthcare to pay for it. If this is 'Labor Left' god knows what Labor right is up to.
Forcing transparency from Labor. This time on the toxic deal where Australia hands over $2.5 billion to Nauru as part of an attack on refugees' rights. After a vote in the Senate brought on by the Greens, Labor must now make public the secret agreement within the month.
Germany and France are out of Palantir and now Spain. It's time for Australia to start looking towards sovereign control of critical systems and reducing our reliance on US billionaire owned and controlled tech.
I asked the Foreign Minister in Question time about Government investments and contracts in shonky Palantir, she took it on notice and then came back with this "answer" Convinced more than ever if procurement rules let Palantir in it's time to fix the rules and ditch Palantir!
This evening and tomorrow will be big hearings in the inquiry into youth justice - the evidence base increasingly pointing to the need for the Commonwealth to step where states and territories are harming kids.
Labor once again showed their true, anti-worker, colours. When the Greens introduced a motion to give teenagers superannuation, to put money in the pockets of hard working young Australians, Labor made it clear that they intend to give that money to big corporations like Coles and Woolies.
The Labor Government doing what it does best - insisting the emperor is fully clothed! Labor just blocked a Greens motion in the Reps for real committee oversight of NACC Commissioner candidates, instead backing the same process that gave us Brereton. They have learned nothing.
The Senate has backed our push for transparency in NACC appointments. The Attorney-General must release all documentation on candidates, and the committee will interview them directly. A corruption watchdog needs to be chosen in the open (only Labor opposing this!)
There should be a law that blocks this blatant attempt to hide assets from survivors of child sexual abuse. It's clear appealing to the morality of this lot is a lost cause.
Here’s a classic AUKUS job, to head the Australian Submarine Agency. Great salary, great benefits, big budget, hundreds of staff, lots of gold braid and no annoying submarines to have to manage. Any takers?
The far right, including One Nation, are outsourcing their Islamophobia content to Indonesia. Which is so wildly cooked on every level. They are importing hate and the platforms that profit from it to be held to account.
When Trump says ‘peace’ expect war. When he says ‘friend’ duck for cover. When he says ‘open’ he means shut. When he says ‘ally’ run a mile.
