SMRs (small modular reactors) are a costly distraction. They are still in development and decades away from deployment at scale. This means that new nuclear is too late for the climate and energy crises.
Basically, we waste two-thirds of the energy created by conventional fossil fuel and nuclear systems, which lose significant amounts of primary energy as waste heat during combustion. By contrast, renewable systems like wind and solar produce electricity directly.
