So we adopted this little guy today 💘 We don’t get to bring him home for another week or so (until after he’s neutered) but he’s the sweetest lil dude!! He was found in a dumpster with another Frenchie, probably dumped by a breeder who no longer wanted him. I’m so excited to give him a loving home!

I've been thinking all day about what, if anything, I should say in the wake of what's gone down in the ttrpg space over the past couple of days. in the end, I think what I wrote in the "On Benevolent Gatekeeping" section of Not Ready To Make Nice addresses a lot of what I'm thinking now.

White people who fancy themselves “good” in general — and white people like this in ttrpgs are no exception — want to be beneficent gatekeepers and gate-openers for BIPOC. They generally have no interest in doing the work of tearing down the damn gate and the walls it’s connected to, because the system of gatekeeping benefits whiteness. Many people in the ttrpg industry want to be seen as allies, as Good White People™. Good White People™ are content with that role as long as BIPOC don’t get too uppity, in which case they have to be reminded of their place.

And some of you don't want to give up your power relative to others.
Some of you have tied your worth to being benevolent gatekeepers, letting in those you find worthy of your favor and keeping out the “troublemakers.” It's a lot of white paternalism and saviorism (though the practitioners of this are not solely white people. Mostly, but not solely). And some of y’all have tied your worth and ego so closely to what you do being "good" that if something comes along and gives you the slightest pause about whether you are a "good" person (and by extension, whether an organization you like is a "good" org), it destabilizes your whole reality and causes you to tantrum.

excuse to rebuild a version of the master’s house, but to create something freer, bolder, much more
dangerous and much more necessary. What if the art you make using ttrpgs was an invitation to destabilize our current relationships to power, to forge something new and different? What if?

Free Palestine, free yourselves, and free each other.
