It always bugged me that in fiction, various things were called "supernatural" but were also approached with a quasi-scientific discipline, or had observable rules. I think thats why I like STALKER so much. The zone was treated as a defying all known laws of physics, so it required intensive study!

I think I accidentally came up with the best encapsulation of the worldbuild for Bread's cycle 0...

"Look, Supernatural and Paranormal are meaningless terms. They exist only in the context of fiction, stuff that can't exist because it doesn't. If any of that sort of thing is *real* then it stops being "super"-natural and immediately becomes simply Natural. You see, if it exists, it has to have *mechanics* it has to *work* in some way, nothing real happens Just Because. And at the point something can happen, its not that it exists outside of comprehensible and conventional science, its that our view of what's normal needs to expand to include the rare phenomonon. If it happens once, its novel, if it happens twice, its rare. If it happens three times? Then it needs to be studied. Once something can be studied, it can be understood. Even if we can't understand it completely, we can know how it acts and reacts, and from there even a surface level understanding distances it from the unknowable supernatural. Its just what people do, humanity has been taking personal offense at the unknown for our entire history."

Had some stuff on my mind, amd came up with this from it. That a Worldeater can refer to a time in its life when it was several times older then the universe it was living in as its childhood.

Was thinking on how old Worldeaters get, and realized something.

Despite Nameless and Kali meeting at the start of both of their second Cycles, and at that point they were both trillions and trillions of years old, both outliving all of human civilization and experiencing the heat death of the universe...

The best way to describe their relationship is as childhood friends.

Worldeaters develop quickly, able to go from completely non-sentient to equivalent of a human adult in a few decades, out of a lifespan that can reach thousands of cycles. But they mature slow, mostly due to one part insanity, and one part rarely caring about life outside their Obsessions.

Practically speaking, a Worldeater isn't mature until they go through Cycle 0, with all of Cycle 1 being a sort of transition to proper Eldritch Maturity. Except Kali and Nameless's Cycle 1 was dead when they got there, swearing they never wanted to see the other as they went into Cycle 2, only to run into each other during Cycle 3.

The way they talk about their earlier cycles is similar to a human reminiscing about being young, dumb, and making a lot of haunting mistakes because they didn't know any better

One Worldeater is bad enough, they're obsessive, destructive, and irresponsible idiots with great power. What if we introduced a second one into the mix? Anyways, meet Kalashnikov "Kali" Maxim, the Worldeater obsessed with Firearms in all ways and forms! (Art by @angelic.observer)

Kali's ref sheet. She has ashen skin due to black blood, is wearing an olive drab military jacket and comfy jean shorts with black combat boots. Her black hair goes to her waist.

Her eldritch form has her hair form tentacles, a 50 caliber machine gun formed out of her shoulder, and a rocket launcher out of her chest. Other firearms are growing out of her torso.

Finally, her Worldeater Form is less overtly threatening then Bread's, being a simpler ball of gas with no mouth or fangs, and big glowing orange eyes.

Meanwhile, my two eldritch dorks stagger in, their clothes torn and dirty, their hair is on fire still, cop cars are pulling up outside. They hand your typical eldritch entity a recently emptied jelly jar with a frog in it. The jelly is peach, the frog is dead. It seems like they had fun doing... whatever it is they were doing...

Switching from shells to a standard munition drastically reduces spread (from a score of 7 to 2.5 in this case)...
The recoil for shells and .50 bmg is the same

I like the idea that this setting as a whole is similar to the IRL world, but also deeply weird in ways modern people don't care about. Like, yeah. Bigfoot exists, but its known as a North American species of Great Ape. Every legend has an explanation, and a reason its not *that* mysterious

88.4 WT-FM has a reputation for being a mindless conspiracy theory broadcast station, but it's not entirely their fault, its mostly how they present themselves. The first issue is the way they name and introduce their stories *very* questionable, for example "Is the fluorite in your water a ploy by a secret society masquerading as dentists to make you servile?" (Conclusion: No, that is ridiculous, fluorite has known and studied health benefits and dentists are real.). The other problem is that the modern view of "Conspiracy Theory" is a transparently politically aggravating piece that leads to real harm, the stories they cover tend to be largely unrelated with current events, meaning people who would be interested in possible supernatural occurrences don't tune in, and people who want to hear modern conspiracy theories leave disappointed that none of the stories call for an angry mob to mobilize. The final problem is that the setting they're in is particularly weird. Eldritch Horror in Peoria besides, the larger setting is just a bit different from the world we know. For example, it is well studied fact that North American forests have sparse populations of great apes exhibiting a known bipedal gait. Are these the Baby-Eating Sasquatches of urban legends? No, because while they are 100% what old myths about Bigfoot are referring to, they prefer a vegetarian diet, but are obligate carnivores if no other food sources are available. The current theory is the baby-eating myths are due to a particularly bad blizzard one winter leading to desperation.

Of course, they get their stories wrong every now and then (Like their infamous "Hot Dog eating contests point to intelligent design" (Maybe there's a link between Humanity being omnipresent and having a fixation on being able to eat a ton of food in one sitting with Worldeaters, but there's definitely no intelligence behind that design) but most of their stories carry actual sources and conclusions to them.

I like the idea that Worldeater Proxies are hyper-tuned for the individual's needs, so Corpse, who spent a lot of his first cycle ambushing people in close quarters is more adapted for melee, while Kali, who finds herself in gunfights for fun, is much more adept at long range

Kali's vision is adapted to seriously tunnel in when focusing and aiming, to the point that she almost had a biological 2x or 3x scope in her eyes. The downside is if she's focusing, she can get stuck "Zoomed In" and needs a minute to adapt back to close quarters vision, like a pupil dialating or contracting based on light.

Corpse has the opposite problem. His vision is adapted to be sensitive to movement, to the point that his peripheral vision is almost as good as his central cone of vision. When focusing on a distant target, he tends to have trouble aiming due to his eye's tendency to auto-focus on movement in his periphery instead of on what he's aiming at.

The parts of Scraps' tech the worldeater understands is the parts they tacked on, but the existing systems pose a learning curve

Scraps has three voice boxes inside of her. The V1 anti-matter powered voice box Bread and Corpse use, the V2 tinny, distorted box made of old MP3 player parts Static and Rine use, and an existing integrated voice synthesier that was left in her body from before she was assimilated.

She normally uses the V1 box, only using the V2 when she wants to mimic or repeat a voice. The synth voice is used when she wants to pretend to be a robot to mess with people.

Its mostly another trick that only works on people who doesn't know she's a Worldeater proxy, but Scraps will try to appear as Robotic as possible, her eyes unfocus and appear empty, her face becomes less expressive, and her voice lacks all indications of humanity the V1 & V2 boxes have, becoming monotone and stilted. However, even if you know its a lie, seeing her go from a dead and lifeless machine to a sentient and active Worldeater Proxy is a bit jarring

Scraps has several leftover features that the Worldeater kinda knows how to use, but rarely does.

The first is her eyes have two modes, a visual mode where they work like a camera, and LIDAR scanning meant for autonomous use. This is technically always on, but the Worldeater only pays attention to regular visual

She also has a short range radar built into her. This is situational, and it doesn't have a very large range. Scraps "pings" it by clicking her tongue, which isn't necessary but is sort of a mnomic for the Worldeater to activate that feature.

Finally, she has radio and satelite uplink capabilities. However, both tend to be blocked by the Worldeater habitually blocking and eating those signals

So, can you tell I like designing robot systems and this character made my brain go brrrr?

Note on Scrap's fluid system.

Her chest is full of energy liquid, the metal bars that look like ribs are one part cooling sinks and one part conductive contacts.

Power enters her system from the ribs, and is routed in traditional wiring to servos in the legs. The worldeater handles the arms, but they get power more directly.

The clear arms fill with power fluid when she's charging up a laser shot. Most shots are below max power, so only a little bit fills it. A 100% power shot does fill the arm completely, as the fluid is not compressed. The fluid in the chest is normally under pressure and slighly warm, making that area feel like skin. A 1451% power shot fills both arms with compressed fluid and uses all of it. Its technically a 1500% power shot, but 49% of power is lost to thermodynamics due to the system becoming superheated and outstripping cooling tech.

Also, a 1451% shot is very painful to charge, and sheer agony to fire. It is a last resort, but so long as the worldeater can block one arm from light, its the strongest attack they can make in full daylight

Parts of Scraps is designed exactly how you'd expect a stupid billionare techbro to design a robot. Full of cool, but pointless traits like a human-looking head that could emote and had hair that was firmly in the uncanny valley before it was replaced to be more like Corpse's head, an upper body with exposed fluid containers (they were decorative and she ran on a car battery before being hijacked by the Worldeater), the belly-button induction charger

But there are parts of her that legitimately are works of genius. The laser system, the power transfer system, and autonomous balance and bipedal movement systems are far more advanced then most robotics. The parts that work like an autonomous android are extremely impressive, to the point that its obvious a greater mind is behind her initial construction.

We post the further lore two at a time! Because bsky crashes after that! But that blue fluid in her chest? Powerful stuff! Leads to her being hunted for it, but... Its a bit like hunting a charging moose. A charging moose armed with lasers. No one's gonna have a good time!

Batteries made from Scraps' core fluid are extremely powerful.

A single cell the size of a AAA can power every aspect of an EZ-RAIDER's kit for several weeks, from Night Vision Goggles (used outside the blockbuster), 360 degree light coverage, directional headlamps, radios, sensors (sudden low temps & drops in barometer pressure means Static is about to appear or is nearby) and the high-powered lights on their weapons.

The EZ-RAIDER base's backup generator is a single car battery full of the stuff. Figurine keeps trying to locate it when she breaks into the base, but its well hidden, the location is cycled daily, and only 4 people know where it is, the quartermaster, 2 randomly selected soldiers, and one random officer. This single car battery can power the entire base for a month without being fully drained

Maximum power output for Scraps laser is 1451% which uses all the energy stored in her chest fluid and wrecks her body past repair. It destroys her arm, half her torso, melts her face, and heavily damages every other part of her body not outright destroyed.

If you've ever seen the wave-motion gun sequence from Space Battleship Yamoto, its basically that.

Although, its less of a "1451% charged shot" and more that she's detonating her entire power supply and giving it direction. This would not work if anything other then a Worldeater was piloting her.

At 200% the laser system should trigger a failsafe and force fire. At 300%, the components start breaking down. At 725.5%, she has to cycle power fluid from her charging arm, to her chest, to her offhand arm in order to keep it cool to prevent further damage. At 1000%, the heatsinks that form her ribs are glowing red hot, and her offhand arm is also full of fluid. Its hard for the Worldeater to keep the system cool. At 1451%, its impossible to keep the system together, and the resulting blast has just as much Scraps in there as laser

Sure, a world-eating eldritch horror probably *shouldn't* have access to advanced tech that should have revolutionized the field of robotics, but... Its not like he knows how to use it! (Still smarter then the idiot techbro who lost her in the zone!)

Scraps has several leftover design flaws from her initial design.

The clear upper arms, although remade in stronger materials, is still a glaring weakness, as it opens up a similar vulnerability to light that Corpse's joints has.

The arms were supposed to be filled with fluid. It leaked out soon after she left the factory. Orginally made of plastic and carbon nanotubes, they were remade out of bulletproof glass in a series of conductive overlapping scales and move similarly to how Corpse moves his arms. This level of precise manufacturing is frankly impossible for anything but a Worldeater to do. As a result, Scraps functionally loses use of her arms if they get hit with a bright light.

The other is that she's made of very lightweight materials, although she's much heavier then her initial build that primarially used aluminum and plastic, she's nowhere near as heavy as Corpse is. She's under 1/4th of the weight, but it means that she's far more suceptible to damage.

Scraps has a laser system integrated into her hands that is legit impressive work (and stolen from someone else) but was critically underpowered. Now that its hooked up to a Worldeater, it can fire at 100%. Which it was never designed to do. Firing it at max forcibly deposesses the body due to stress to the frame causing internal tearing and exposing most of the body to a high impulse flash that *hurts the Worldeater like hell!*

Scraps' lack of feet is also a design problem, but not one that the Worldeater notices, as he's gotten really good at controlling Corpse and has adjusted well to Scraps' body, although he has personal greivences, namely that due to not being built like a (literal) tank, she can take far less stress then Corpse, and thus they can't be as rough on the frame (no massive jumps or running through walls). They also dislike that Scraps is 5 foot even. The Worldeater prefers larger human-scale forms.

Also, the area around her bellybutton is an induction charger. Nobody knows why...

There are some upsides.

Since she was designed to be remotely controlled, Scraps' eyesight is almost better to Bread, only losing out due to preference.

Since said remote control was done via mocap, she also moves *much* more like an actual human, except for the arms having a wider range of motion due to the redesign.

Also, the fluid around her chest and rib-bones is a conductive energy storing fluid. Its made of a similar substance to Static, but repurposed as a battery and far more stable.

While she *has* been designated a target to be hunted so EZ-RAIDERs can extract this fluid and repurpose it into long-lasting batteries immune to being drained by the Worldeater, their primary use is as a portable generator. The "skin" is thin enough that you can stab a plug into it, and nearby fluid configures itself into exactly the needed voltage and wattage. The only downside is that like Static, it disappears under strong light and her chest is clear.

Everyone talks about eldirtch non-euclidean geometry, but we don't have that here. We have non-neutonian solids!

Somehow, a group of Trespassers managed to make a non-neutonian door to seal off a hideout.

Nobody's entirely sure *how* they did this, since in their own words "We had a quite a few beers and when we woke up, the door was halfway in realspace, half out, and we all had a killer headache."

The non-neutonian door acts like the solid steer door it looks like when anyone tries to run through it, but if you walk slowly, you can step right through it.

Its perfectly safe, the only side effect is that it feels disconcerningly *right* to do. Like your body is a little *too* comfortable stepping through what should and could be a solid object

More Lore! Worldeaters as an amorphous energy entity don't have the physical capability to get drunk, but these eldritch dorks are able to gaslight themselves into a form of intoxication. Which is a far less elegant, but more accurate description then "They get drunk off the memories humans have"
