Aggressive foliage added to the worldbuilding A lot of them are juiced up from magic and potions seeping into the soil They are not hungry for people for food reasons, kinda just hungry for more magic (which they know people happen to have sometimes), which makes them act like man-eating plants

He used to be a lion with natural magic. It subconsciously used its magic to transform into the way he is now, fueled by the nice things he saw humans having, and wanting to defend himself from them The longer he's been around, the more humanoid he's gotten, he can even talk now
