Almost done. Just ran out of buckles and tri-glides to strap the chest, codpiece and shin armor. …and then still plan on making a backpack and adding small armor and helm attachments to break up the silhouette.

Still actively printing and sizing the armour plates, but got the M7S fully printed, sanded, painted and weathered! (Just waiting on clear coat to dry) Also picked up a vest and gloves for the soft components. Found a pair of black out Docs I had laying around, but they only *barely* fit tightly.

An M7S SMG prop gun, from Halo 3 ODST. It features a two-tone finish; the grips and silencer were given a rubberized finish with Plastidip, and the black metal was several layers of black and metallic paints blended together, and then intentionally scratched u to give it a worn-in look.
Missing from this photo is the orange safety strip painted at the tip of the silencer; that was added after this was taken.

OH right, I’m also using some of the Rookie references that Bungie provided a while back; they’re genuinely a fun lil read! They get into specifics, like material/textile choice, and, my favourite addition, ✨Pantone Swatches✨ (seriously, getting official colour codes is lowkey a god send)

I’ve got the helmet assembled and sanded (and to fill in some seams with automotive body filler), so it just need some coats of paint. The SMG is almost done either way it’s coats of paint, but I’ll snag pics of those later when it’s done.

A 3D printed ODST helmet, with some of the seams and imperfections filled in with body filler. It’s propped up with a can so the body filler doesn’t get anywhere.

So. Doing another thing. An ODST thing. But I’ll see if I can kit it out with some of my camera gear! So, long winded progress thread🧵 I’ll see if I can crunch this down a con in mid-June (I already got a little bit of a start), or, worst case scenario, I have til early August.

Secure Peak Design Capture Clip to backpack straps in shoulders
- Definitely make either a 1 or 2 point harness for any prop guns.
- Maybe line knee pads with foam? Makes getting on knees for a shot better
- Either paint Peak Design anchors blacks or buy black ones
- Make sure gloves are fingerless, easier to handle phone & camera
- Make sure chest piece doesn’t impact arm movement at all

- Make a rain/fly cover for the bag for water resistance
- Consider MagSafe magnets for makeshift phone tripod

Shield’s done and wrapped with leather. Moving onto arm bracers and the belt/sash thing now, but I don’t have enough clamps to get it done in time (wrapping leather onto foam with contact cement), sooo picking up a couple on the way home.

Shield’s almost there. Gotta paint over the googly eyes on the back, and then paint in the recesses on the front, and wrap the handle in leather. Air brushed the blur on the front for a clean look, but hand brushed the back to help with the faux wood look

Added some gashes, & glued on the front piece for real. 3D printed the half-sphere that slots into the middle, since I suck at making those dome foam spheres gang and a bitch (me) only has so much time. Painting the shield when I get home, and if I make good time, start making the bracers.

I got only until the 14th till finish. Lock in. I used form clay to fill in gaps in the shield, but that has a cure time of 2-3 days, so, I’ll be working on the other leather components in the interim.

A prop magnum, the M6G, from Halo Reach. It was 3D printed, and various paints and washes were used.

I’m roughly 5’7”, while the sword comes up a couple inches short.

I know I personally marked this as done, but…what if I made one more prop with the con in 1 week, since you carry a side arm in the games…what then… (I still got more pieces pending on the printer)

Finally got Wylder’s greatsword put together, but just needs sanding, a layer of filler primer, more sanding, and paint. It’s roughly 5’4” in length (I’m 5’7”, so it’ll be a whole thing), so it comes apart at the middle to make it easy to transport.

A 3D printed prop greatsword, belonging to the Wylder — it has been printed in a black PLA filament, and the pieces have been “welded” together by melting plastic in between the joins, using a soldering iron.

Sleeves (I have to shorten these) and scarf! Also made the shoulder & chest pieces, & tried some new techniques! Went in w/ metallic paint + black acrylic wash, hit some highlights w/ rub n buff like normal. But added panel line paint for shadows, & used Tamiya’s palettes for more spots.

Next to a finished shoulder piece are Taniya Wrathering Master palette swatches that’re applied with a tiny sponge brush, a container of silver rub n buff, and a jar of Tamiya Pane Line Accent Color paint, which has a thin paint brush on the underside of the lid.

A test fit for the Wylder armor — new in this is his brown scarf, and the shoulder and chest pieces. The gambeson and scarf still need to be painted and weathered so they both don’t look too new.

All of the leather components of his design still need to be made.

The gambeson’s finally embroidered! Still gotta line the inside, add sleeves, & weather it + the (eventual) brown scarf. Sanding the armor pieces, and having issues with printing the sword tho. OH, and added a black mesh fabric to the helmet, so you can’t see into it from the outside.
