1) 🍄🟫Ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi are essential to forest ecosystems and nutrient cycling. 💧 A recent Europe-wide study of 66 ECM species found that the distribution of host trees 🌳 is a stronger predictor of fungal distributions than climate alone. ☀️

Day 1 of the Asia Regional Nodes Meeting done and dusted 🌏 Hosted by the Republic of Korea's national node (#KBIF) in Daejeon, node representatives, regional support contractors and members from the Secretariat came together to collaborate towards advancing regional biodiversity coordination. 💗
1)🐍 Can a species be both native and invasive? A recent study examined #Australia's domestic pet trade and it's impact on biosecurity using GBIF-mediated data. Analyzing 12,317 online listings covering 177 native species, researchers found that 73% were traded outside their natural ranges.
✈️ Members from the GBIF Secretariat are attending events in Asia over the coming weeks including the GBIF Asia Regional Nodes meeting in Republic of Korea, the Global Nature Positive Summit in Japan and the 18th APBON Workshop in Malaysia. 💚 Keep an eye out for more about these events! 👀

1) 🌺Exploring the roots or orchid origins A recent phylogenomic study suggests that orchids first evolved in Laurasia (ancient North America and Eurasia) around 83 million years ago, challenging earlier hypotheses that placed their origin in Australia. 🦘
