Even more people on stage than at the end of a Blue Aeroplanes gig in the 80s: a rousing kick off for the Edinburgh International Festival courtesy of Wynton Marsalis's jazz symphony All Rise.
Good to see @nigetassell.bsky.social latest opus in the wild @edinburghbookshop.bsky.social. A nearby copy of In Another World was also repping for @newmodernbooks.bsky.social
Deluxe Scottish stoicism. Nothing can beat the first two Blue Nile albums, of course, but I find myself more often reaching for High before Peace At Last these days.
I'm a great admirer of @johnhiggs.bsky.social, so I love that he 'absolutely loved' In Another World (and also that Laughing Stock is his favourite Talk Talk album, too) johnhiggs.substack.com/p/octannual-...
I'm not sure anyone ever expected this pair to appear at the Commonwealth Games...
'An admirable book.' There's a nice review of In Another World: The Four Seasons of Talk Talk in the latest issue of The Idler
A very old acquaintance just sent me a photo of their copy of this tape; I'd rather hoped I had the only ones in existence. Drolly amused to see that my surname was being misspelt even then (and by my own band...) As usual, I'll blame the drummer.
It's rather sobering to realise that 16 birthdays have passed (hers; mine) since Under The Ivy was first published.
Raising a toast to birthday girl Kate Bush with a herbal brew in my beautiful bespoke Ninth Wave ceramic mug.
There's a lovely review of In Another World in the new issue of The Idler. ‘Fascinating … a pointedly personal celebration of an often insane-sounding musical visionary, whose working methods bordered on madness … yet nevertheless, as this admirable book makes plain, his music demands to be heard.’
Just one of scores of life preserving records I bought at FOPP on Byres Rd between 1991 & 1995 (and upstairs at John Smith, and Echo, and...) This is a very special album.
Just handed over a little good luck present to tonight's referee. May the best team win!
Just woken up Frankie from his power nap so he can get prepped for the big match (fluids, snacks etc). He's backing Norway - what can you do? - and seems extremely confident they'll get a result.
Thanks to Teddy Jamieson in the Herald for including 'In Another World' in this list of the best music books of 2026 thus far. "The book has a swirling, tidal pull to it that sweeps you along and under. An example of the rewards of close listening." www.heraldscotland.com/life_style/2...
