Wine & Cats & Music with a touch of nonsense Lonely Planet called our boutique store, La Cava del Barrio, the best wine shop in Santiago (Chile)
Dylan is current up by *1 vote* (Obviously we have a long way to go) Yup gonna be a nailbiter
Wait just realized that I am getting a lot of the same accounts you get @megabrow12.bsky.social but I do have my app trained to show me @bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social with the use of the word “best” Never realized that, um, “best shot” splash emoji was on my list since it’s partially obscured
We attended a wine seminar today in which 15 Vigneronas * presented one of their wines They were picked out by the organizers (Premium Tasting); no input from us 7 have wines in our store One of the presentations consisted of 5 of “our” Vigneronas at once (plus moderator) * Women who make wine
In a different Starbucks and amazed to hear a song from one of my favorite albums of all time, HEAVEN OR LAS VEGAS. The song in question? Why, title track “Heaven or Las Vegas” itself Next time I’ll ask the baristas if this is a “corporate approved” playlist or if someone picks one out
I dream about it! We even stayed a few nights. Really expensive, tho I’d say it’s worth it When we stay overnight they let you visit the James Turrell Museum on site Wasn’t familiar with Turrell before the visit but it’s a museum based on light & color. Stunning (Look it up when U have time)
Malbec! And wait it’s from 3.111 m.a.s.l This is the best screen capture I could come up w/ by phone We tried the 2015 vintage when we visited in Sept 18 & it was very lean & flinty w/ tannins that really dried the palate. Still enjoyable but too young I have been holding on to 2 bottles since
There’s a winery in Salta, a northern province of Argentina, called Colomé, that produces a wine called Altura Maxima which is produced from grapes grown at slightly over 3.000 m.a.s.l. The winery itself (with most of its fields) is at 2.300 meters We made it to the winery but not to Alt Max
My 1st event! I was an on-again, off-again comics reader until I came upon Secret Wars N° 10 at the newstand This cover intrigued me so much I bought the comic. As you can imagine, I didn't understand WHY it was happening, but I was blown away by the idea of Doom fighting an omnipotent force
Here is the 1988 music hill that I will die on Galaxie 500 Fishbone The Primitives Sade @bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social
Our Queen advances to R3 Alas, it came out a bit blurry, but here's Kylie, pleased that FEVER is among the 32 best albums of '01, but determined to take her rightful place in the deep rounds
PARIS, TEXAS! Not just a fantastic movie anymore Now you can get burgers and fries with your trauma
Let's keep this screenshot handy ... here's the voting right now at 11:03 Eastern. How quickly will the Stereolab lead evaporate?
This morning we collected bowls & bowls of fruit and had great palta (avocado) toast I can report that the consistency is much thicker than supermarket palta and also greener (I did not think to take a picture of the toast) but, man, is it creamy and delicious Gonna have to research palta storage
We have a palta tree (palta = Chilean for avocado) in our yard. Over the last 10 yrs it has produced a scant handfull of fruits, nothing edible This yr the tree burst into fruit. Last week a few started to fall from the tree with the wind We just got hit with a major rainstorm. This morning: 1/2
Speaking of Iggy Pop, one of my favorite wine labels is from an orange wine, made from a blend of 4 white grapes by a project here called L'Entremetteuse The winemaker behind this blend is French; she has a sense of humor (hence the wine name) & she's a punk rock fan (hence Iggy & the Stooges)
I don’t know if there’s a way to link a past post so a screenshot is going to have to do:
El auto corrector me ha jugado sucio más que una vez, así que no estoy juzgando o burlándome del cliente Pero estoy curioso ahora por “el evento del orgasmo” y no estoy seguro cuál sería el mejor Carmenere para acompañarlo …. 🤔
Presenting the new & improved La Cava del Barrio (v3.0)! We're still located in the same gallery & we're still the only shop in Santiago, Chile, devoted to small scale, national winemaking projects But now we're larger than a walk-in closet! *Do* drop by if you're here at the end of the world
Well, she likes Tipsy, so she's our kinda gal... she'd fit in nicely with our little Electorate
That 20% is me! The Ruby album is right up my alley; it's a shame it's not on Spotify because I would download several songs if I could. I've listened to it vía Youtube, never ideal. Hoping it doesn't get Pacmanned Anyone know why Missy has aggressive, spiky mines over her shoulder?
Ex Chilean President Gabriel Boric (our youngest Prez ever) is a famous Tool fan. You can find many pictures of him in Tool hats or t-shirts The band published this photo of him on their Facebook page in '22 with the note "The prez chilean!" Boric later shared a BBQ with them when they toured here
I've been waiting *month* to use this ... Tool bros, I voted for LATERALUS, but this is both funny and true because all the Tool fans I know always want to explain the importance of the Fibonacci sequence....
Argentine television reporting that there is currently a *90-block* line to to pay respects to "Indio" Solari, singer of Patricio Rey y Sus Redonditos de Ricota. (He died of a stroke on Fri) When the line was shorter, they were already saying it was 7 km long, so not sure the length right now
Emotionally devastating week, w/ the loss of all-time favs Gotan & Zero 7 as well as Firewater. I'm going to need some time to get over it. Life is nasty, brutish in the Brakets Very happy for Kylie though & relieved at the loss of bête noire Lightning Bolt, so it wasn't a total disaster, I guess
@bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social I should have posted this earlier today, but: Kylie. Santiago. August 2025 Amazing show
I think that Kylie & Gotan Project are the only 2 albums in the Tourney that I would pick over SIMPLE THINGS Such bad luck that it gets the draw against Kylie Spotify gave us all Your All-time Top Songs playlists last month. Both "In the Waiting Line" and "Destiny" are among in my top 25, dammit
Amazingly, after 12 hours of voting, Gotan Project is holding it's own against JayZ If you're a tango / electrotango fan, you, too, can do your part & go to @bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social to vote for LA REVANCHA DEL TANGO 🪗💃 (And read the mini essay I did on the album & electrotango en general)
I hope that the Electorate will be interested in the '77 album PELICULAS by La Maquina de Hacer Pájaros. IMO it's a brilliant album musically, but it's usually cited as one the 1st pop culture responses to the '76 coup. Amazingly, Charly Garcia & the band *weren't* arrested for it
