Enjoying FRENCH WEIRD, an excellent new podcast from my pal @rwilliamsparis.bsky.social, interrogating the lesser explored underside of French culture that you'll not get from watching Emily In Paris. There's a first full episode here on Michel Houellebecq which is unmissable frenchweird.com 👈
The Prog Proms was jolly good for a couple of £8 tickets. At one point my 9yo son and I tried to find a better vantage point and a rather snooty woman said "there's no room here! Go back to where you came from". That Peter Hammill had just sung Refugees was no doubt lost on her
I've never been to the Proms before but tonight I will be attending the Prog Proms with my 9 year old and I don't mind admitting I'm bloody excited
250 years seems like a long time until you realise it's one year less than the combined age of the original lineup of Pixies
Take a look at this beauty. 116 pages on Swindon's greatest musical export! There are interviews galore: with band members, producers, engineers, arrangers, celebrity fans and superfan collectors. Every XTC and Dukes of Stratosphear album reviewed, plus excellent features throughout
Off to see Beat (80s Crims + Steve Vai) and I swear to Christ there was a busker with a Chapman Stick in the tube at Hammersmith
Rest in power Areski Belkacem, French-Algerian singer and composer who was Brigitte Fontaine's partner for more than 50 years. When I visited Brigitte in Paris, he was in hospital and she kept saying "he should be here". Thanks for the music Areski, including Vous et Nous, one of my favourite albums
#nowplaying Love a bit of Cale. Cale is good for heart health, bone strength, digestion and Lou Reed.
Tracey Emin's passport reminds me that they were actually black (why did they all want blue passports again?)
"It's just that I have a couple of tickets for Tina Turner. Do you like Tina Turner, Ted?"
I spoke to Laibach's Ivan Novak about AI, Kraftwerk, writing bangers and avoiding the wellness-to-fascism pipeline (among other things), all in the spanking brand new Electronic Sound
I reckon there's a correlation to be drawn between tech oligarchs spoiling the Met Gala and tech oligarchs spoiling absolutely fucking everything. Who fancies paying me for 800 words?
#NP Been looking for a copy of Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band for some time. You can get Lennon's for a tenner but Yoko's mind-melting avant rock didn't do very well so copies go for about £50. Very happy to have picked up this corker for £15 in Catch A Fire, Sofia, Bulgaria!
