Games tonight at Forward Super Lucky Box Hansa Teutonica (not shown) Lewis and Clark
New bike count station, and calling detector incoming at Blair - John Nolen - Williamson - Wilson (aka the Hairball).
Lessons learned from BRT...it is an iterative process that you simply cant throw money at once and say "I have TSP now". Much like every traffic signal system. Also, I cant shut up about TSP.
I think terrace trees should take far more priority than median trees, even if that means mature trees get removed. Ped/bike comfort needs to be more important than aesthetics. We end up living with these designs for 40+ years. That's is my street design/climate disaster hot take.
The power of phase insertion! The bus phase will always be the next phase with this sequence! My favorite TSP strategy when you have to make a protected/exclusive movement is phase insertion!
I just watched Hundreds of Beavers...and put that up there with Escanaba in da Moonlight on my Mount Rushmore of cinema.
Bus runs over a loop detector after the intersection for a far side stop. That loop terminates any TSP operation and calls the ped phase. Signals are just inputs and outputs, get the right inputs, you can get creative with the outputs.
I really am going to keep beating the drum that center running lanes are underrated...yes, UNDERrated. Two loop detectors can deliver incredible TSP in a clean lane.
Games from last night at Union Corners Brewery Sea Salt and Paper Village Scout (not shown)
Its wild that these two vehicles are the same when it comes to towing. Now, the Pilot also gets better fuel economy...but given 30+ years of engine development I bet so could the sedan.
I guess I dont have the patience for a perculator...so cowboy coffee it is. Mmm....gritty
Did I beg? (Yes I know, not all are setup like this, but I have to celebrate the ones that are)
Vehicle detectors can also disconnect after some time reserving time at the end of the split to ensure you always get the walk if you push the button and the green is on.
Its comment after comment of searching for reasons why an increase in ridership isnt real and transit is a waste (the attached was part of the OP showing ridership gains).
New way to plan for transportation just dropped. Only count trips that begin and end in any given city by the residents of that city. All of a sudden cities find a lot of extra capacity on streets when removing non-residents from the traffic counts! Bike lanes and bus lanes for everyone!
Cut your signal infrastructure cost dramatically with this one trick.
Shut this site down. There is not metric that Green Bay is better than Madison when it comes to biking.
I crossed the square and am on the west side for games tonight, AMA.
It's wild that people just say random things online as if it's fact. The claim here is this expansion of a business park is good because it will create more tax base than a residential neighborhood and that business parks have less emergency calls than residential land uses.
At game night tonight... Santa Fe by @gmtgames.bsky.social Moon Colony Bloodbath Scout In our game of Santa Fe, Billings became the second only to San Fransisco in terms of high value cities. Come for the sunflowers, stay for the trains!
On North Stoughton Road, the state lowers the speed limit to 45 mph at signals...so why keep 55 mph on south stoughton road? At intersections which are the most dangerous in the city? This is insane!
Next...is 55mph really the soeed limit here? 1 mile between signals...the fact that there are signals alone should eliminate anything over 45 mph due to the MUTCDs yellow change interval guidance.
The most obvious, but hardest to change is the use of frontage/access roads. These things flat out suck. They suck for intersection operation, user clarity, ped/bikes, and use land poorly. But to fix them would be a massive ordeal to shift streets and buildings around.
The Cap city path is a few hundred feet away along Ohio Street from Atwood, and has an off street bike connection with wayfinding, and an RRFB crossing. But that distance is 640 ft at Corry St. Two very different levels of usefulness.
Some more pictures from the ride, taken by a co-worker in our electrical/communications division. Loved showing how ped delay is better here wmby requiring pushing a button and operating the signal in FREE. 84" vs 128" free vs coordinated
I had a blast again this year on our infrastructure tour. Lots of great conversations and a hands on demonstration! Thanks everyone for coming out in big numbers again!
