There’s this little-used countertop space in my home that only Shitty Little Cat accessed. Her little paw prints remained immortalized in the dust on the counter.

Today I decided it was time to dust the space. I’ve put it off for weeks, telling myself that it’s not like we had any visitors coming over. But I needed to do it.

So I wiped away a little piece of what remained of her in my home and cried the entire time, and now I’m utterly inconsolable at my desk and hoping nobody reaches out for anything because I’ll be useless at work.

I can’t stop crying. I miss her so much.

Oran may generally like Solas by this point in the fic I’m working on, but still finds him terribly irritating at times. 😂

There’s something novel about casting spells to fight instead of summoning his war hammer - and he’s not very good at it (diplomatically, Solas points out that he’s “improving”), but it is easier on his knee than a proper ass brawl would be. Solas uses a quarter staff, though he’s not calling on it as a focus, but uses it more as a means to enhance his workout.

Fucking show off.

Old Man was constantly snuggling with Shitty Little Cat and I think he really misses that because he’s very cautiously plopped himself down on my lap next to Shy Girl. The two of them have always tolerated each other at best, a dynamic that hasn’t improved these last two months.

I wrote this in 2022 and sometimes I’ll read old fics of mine and cringe, wishing I’d written things differently or feeling as if I could do better now. I did really well with this scene, though.

She points emphatically at the door over and over as she continues, “I go out there, and I do something, every single fucking day, because there’s an end. I love those around me, knowing that one day I will lose them, but that doesn’t change anything because love is sacred and love is special, and I’ll not trade my relationship with you, or with Dorian, or with Bull away to avoid grief. Not like you did with me.”

“That is not why I ended things,” Solas says, sounding deeply affronted, as if she just uttered a great insult.

“Then why? Why did you do this to me? To us?”

“Now is not the time for this discussion.”

“You’ll tell me why you find the idea of a life with me so fucking appalling after we’ve dealt with Corypheus?”

She doesn’t wait for him to answer; she storms away, hoping to find Dorian so she can complain about her asshole ex-boyfriend one last time before leaving Skyhold to face Corypheus. However, Solas speaks up, stopping her in her tracks. “Nothing in this very long life has made me happier than to have a life by your side, no matter how brief our time together was.”

The tears come and she wipes her eyes roughly before rushing towards Solas, grabbing him by the lapel, pulling him down and kissing him. After a moments’ hesitation, Solas returns the kiss, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close. The embrace of a lover and not a friend.
