Post the best picture you’ve ever taken of your pet. (Can’t choose. Both are options for Max’s album cover for his moody singer-songwriter debut. He does a lot of staring into the distance, contemplating.)
This is why I love shopping vintage patterns: (A handwritten note) “is this dress too sexy for Carol’s wedding festivities?” (Response in a different hand) “NO” (Idk, it’s pretty sexy. Carol might be scandalized.)
Alexander McQueen, Spring/Summer 2001: VOSS Red and black ostrich feathers on skirt, medical slides painted red on bodice (Mine is chain stitch skirt in variegated red, glass beads for bodice)
“They’re all gonna laugh at you!” (My first attempt at beading for CARRIE’s pigs blood)
I’m also copying iconic designs, like Yves Saint Laurent’s Mondrian dress
I’m visiting my mom and embarking on an embroidery project that is too ambitious for my skills: outfits for 100 ladies. I’ve done a few that are just fun experiments, like my curly girly:
Celebrating a decade with Max with a Max-sized croissant! (He got edible treats, too)
Ten years with this beautiful boy. How lucky we were to find each other! He’s been the sweetest, weirdest, grumpiest little old man for the past decade. We love him more than I can say. Grateful to Humane Society of Utah for my perfect pup.
I was very excited to enjoy my new comfy cushions on the patio furniture. Maxwell got there first. Guess it’s his seat now.
Celebrating with pizza and beer: the David Bowie stout, a beer that appears to be made for me specifically.

Lots of big news this week: I was granted promotion to full professor! It’s been a joy to teach here at CSUF for the past nine years, and I’m looking forward to many more. I’m so grateful to my family, friends, students, and colleagues for the support!
Watching the new 4K of THE HAUNTING. Excited to enjoy the cinematography (and Mary Quant costumes) in glorious high definition
Ok, @maxsarchive.bsky.social has outdone himself. He contacted Marianna Gefen, the artist whose work graces my Velvet Goldmine book’s cover, and bought the original artwork. You can see even more detail in the original!
It's release day for my little book! Thanks for following along with my mixtape this week, and extra special thanks if you picked up a copy of the book for yourself. If you're interested, I'll drop links below to find it on various platforms.
With this song, my mixtape comes to an end. There's so much more to talk about VG (always), but I'll let the book continue the conversation. It's out today and I hope that, for those who love the film, it provides one more way to spend a little time in that world. It was an utter joy to write.
The crew regularly boosted crowd numbers in the performance scenes. The excitement and camaraderie are palpable onscreen and in interviews years later. King says it was like being on tour, and the atmosphere continued offset.
