While in Columbia Borough, council voted to pass Councilman Ethan Byer’s drafted ordinance to rezone data centers from light business to industrial which removes the McGinness property as a possible use for data centers.

At city council we packed the room demanding for stronger protections against data centers. Council ultimately passed the zoning ordinance, that has weak language and no enforcement protections, we know council can do better.

This Independence Day, we do not celebrate the institution, but we celebrate the people who fought for the promise of America to extend to everyone. We aren't free until we are all free.

Born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1815 to an African mother and Irish father, Lydia became a successful businesswoman after Stevens' death, utilizing the skills and connections she gained during their partnership.

In 1860, she purchased her home in Lancaster, a notable achievement for a woman of color at the time. Following the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, she helped those in need by collecting donations for the wounded, even using her own funds. Lydia passed away on her 69th birthday, February 1884, in Washington DC, and was buried at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery."

(2/3) Short for June Nineteenth, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to seize power and secure the emancipation of all enslaved people. Two and a half years had passed...

Juneteenth has been known by many names: Jubilee Day, Freedom Day, Liberation Day, Emancipation Day, and today, a national holiday."

Its location near the Mason-Dixon Line made it a place of refuge and resistance - where local abolitionists opposed slavery and thousands of freedom seekers passed through in search of safety. At the center of this landscape was the home of Congressman Thaddeus Stevens, a leading advocate for freedom and equality. By his side was Lydia Hamilton Smith, his trusted housekeeper, who helped run the household and support Stevens' radical work."

He proposed a resolution to free all enslaved people in November 1861 and expressed extreme measures to preserve the Union.

During the Reconstruction Era, he co-chaired the Joint Committee on Reconstruction, addressing violence against African Americans and implementing military governance in the South. Stevens passed away on August 11, 1867, without seeing Reconstruction's full achievements, opting for burial in a racially inclusive cemetery to reflect his lifelong advocacy for equality."
