Yesterday, my NIH IMPROVE Act passed the House unanimously! The next step? Getting it passed in the Senate. When I came to Congress, my goal was simple: end pregnancy-related deaths. This funding gets us one step closer to ending these maternal health disparities.

Some of the most important work in Congress never makes headlines. I secured $959k to replace Romeoville's Spangler lift station. More than 60 years old, it serves 10,000 residents. Now the local library, school, businesses, and residents have clean water for another 60 years!

Nurse anesthetist students like Gavin aren't allowed to work while they're in school, meaning the Trump administration's new cap on their student loan amounts will SEVERELY limit who can even pursue this specialty. Gavin's right — the ladder is being pulled up.

1 in 3 Americans skip getting care because they can't afford it. Not because they aren't sick. Not because they don't want care. But because the system chose to put profits over people. That ends with the Primary and Behavioral Health Care Access Act.

To solve big problems we need to put our egos aside, work urgently and, most importantly, we have to get rid of the filibuster.

As a nurse, I know firsthand how expensive my education was — and just like Allison, I don't know where I'd be without the loans Trump is now limiting access to. We need MORE Allisons taking care of underserved children in every community. We must overturn this regulation.

We need more women serving in every level of government to help solve our nation’s biggest problems. With gas more than $5 a gallon, unemployment on the rise, and women being forced out of the job market, we know we have serious work to do.
