Thank you to the staff from Ørsted who volunteered at our specialist Sea View saltmarsh and sand dunes nursery on Tuesday. They joined our #WilderHumber team and Marine Futures interns in preparing seeds for planting and monitoring and tending to those that have already germinated.

Two young cranes fly with their parents above Willow Tree Fen nature reserve in south Lincolnshire.
The youngsters are getting almost as big as their parents, but don't yet have all their adult feathers, including the distinctive red and black crown, so are easy to tell apart with binoculars.

And just like that, the Lincolnshire Show is over for another year! Our pop-up shorebird sanctuary has returned to the coast and apart from the somewhat flattened grass left by many, many feet over the two days, it's like we were never there on the showground.

We're bringing a bit of Gibraltar Point to the #LincolnshireShow2026. We've been busy creating a walk-through shorebird sanctuary so that visitors can get a glimpse of what goes on behind the cordons at the sanctuary. Do come and visit our marquee in the Countryside Area.

It was an early start for Gibraltar Point's Mothy Morning event on Sunday—but what a morning! Sixty-seven species were recorded with the real excitement coming near the end with a striped hawkmoth (a first for Gibraltar Point!) and a Porter’s rustic—only the second sighting at the reserve.

Congrats to King Edward VI Academy in Spilsby, named winners in the Lincolnshire Young Environmentalist Awards 2026 Seven finalists were visited by the judges earlier in the year and gave excellent presentations today on their actions for wildlife, connecting with nature and helping the environment.

The first egg for the year has been laid in the Gibraltar Point shorebird sanctuary, courtesy of this lovely oystercatcher pair! There's been plenty of courtship activity and test scrapes being made by ringed plovers, so we're hoping they won't be far behind, closely followed by the little terns.

Today we join everyone in wishing Sir David Attenborough a happy 100th birthday. The man who brought the world's wildlife into our living rooms has always been a passionate advocate for local species and habitats. In Lincolnshire we enjoyed Sir David's support and presence on many notable occasions.

Exciting news from Willow Tree Fen, where two crane chicks emerged from the reeds last week. We've been keeping their arrival quiet over the bank holiday as they are very sensitive to disturbance. If you're visiting, binoculars are recommended and our amazing Crane Watch volunteers are on hand.

Lincs Wildlife Trust & North Lincolnshire Council staff, local residents & volunteers from the Peatland Railway joined forces to plant a 10,000 cottongrass plugs at Crowle Moor. The plants play a crucial role in stabilising the bare peat. Thank you to all those who helped.

Lambing season is underway! Our conservation grazing flock at Woodhall Spa Airfield has so far welcomed three single additions and one set of twins, with lots more to come. The first arrivals came a little earlier than expected, but seem to be enjoying life out on the nature reserve.

One of the latest additions to our conservation grazing herd of Lincoln red cattle is enjoying the scratching brushes our team has put up for them! We are now over halfway through calving for 2026 with 11 new arrivals so far. And just to keep everyone busy, lambing is due to start from next week.

Bourne North Fen is being relandscaped to retain more water and it was fantastic to watch this drone in action today, dropping seed onto the bare earth of the newly created banks. The locally sourced mix contains primarily grasses with some wildflowers such as oxeye daisy and knapweed.

Meetings that call for wellies are often the best sort! Last week, our conservation officers were joined by representatives from the Environment Agency, Natural England, district planning ecologists + ecological consultants for an on-site discussion around wetland creation and Biodiversity Net Gain.

Roger has advised on habitat creation throughout Britain, specialising in meadows and wetlands, and also farms in Lincolnshire so offers valuable insights from different perspectives.
