The violence that occurred this weekend among our youth is heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to the victims of last night's shooting, and the entire city of Nashville will continue the work of building a whole system approach to support a safe community.

“The violence that occurred this weekend among our youth is heartbreaking. I know I join many in this community in mourning the loss of a 12-year-old child, a young person accused of committing that crime at age 24, and an entire network of families, friends, and community grappling with this horrific act of violence.
I sincerely appreciate the quick work of the Metro Nashville Police Department who secured the scene and quickly identified and arrested the alleged shooter and all the medical staff who worked to save the 12-year-old victim.
I encourage anyone who is struggling with the impact of this event to reach out to someone who can help - including our Public Health Department Office of Behavioral Health, our Office of Youth Safety, or a trusted community partner.
As we process what occurred, we will continue the work of building a whole system approach to support a safe community.”
