They say every failure is an opportunity to learn. Tried giving another shot at the human face and body with my more natural style. One day, I'll be as comfortable drawing people as I am with my furry kemono characters.

Soul fusion! I like that feeling when you can't get any closer or intimate with your partner than two messy souls' DNA swapping... whatever souls are made of. XD

I like humans, but finding my style between realism and my normal toony, kemono style is difficult. I reworked this old study based on reference photos, and I'm happy with it. But someday I'll find my real human art style. ^^

This photo was where my abuela and abuelo lived, and where my mother grew up. We used to go outside to throw rocks at the tall mango trees to hit them down. My abuela was giving abuelo a haircut when I visited. They loved each other very much, and were married 70 years. I love and miss them too.

On the edges of the city of Caracas are the slums; houses built upon more houses up the mountains. I visited and stayed with my primos, who could not afford to live downtown. Even though we lived poor, it felt like magic to stay here. At night, the lights of all the houses create an ocean of stars.

My mother left her country to have a more promising life in the US. She left behind her family who couldn't move with her, so we used to always visit every few years. My abuela, abuelo, and tios lived in Caracas where you could see the entire city in the valley between cloud covered mountains.

I don't really talk about myself, or at least not the real me because I enjoy art as a fun escape from the world. But as my world gets smaller, I want to remember my family that influenced me and my art growing up. This story is about my last visit to Venezuela in 2010 to see my mother's family.
