Not In Our Name (NION) Women
@nionwomen
Women working towards a kinder world. Join our campaign against the active discrimination of trans & non-binary people. Over 100,000 signatures of support, and counting 🙏 👏
Last week, NION was proud to add our signature to a joint statement from over 50 women’s organisations, speaking up against the EHRC’s updated Code of Practice, which is due to come into force on 5th August.
Today is International Non-Binary People's Day. Did you know? The date was chosen because it sits exactly halfway between International Women's Day and International Men's Day, recognising that not everyone fits neatly into a binary understanding of gender. #InternationalNonBinaryPeoplesDay
"Why can't trans people just use the accessible toilet?" It's a question that comes up time and again. But as a disabled person, our latest blogger explains why that seemingly simple suggestion isn't a solution at all. Read here👉 notinourname.org.uk/why-cant-tra...
NION Women is proud to stand alongside a coalition of UK women’s organisations in a joint statement on the EHRC’s updated Code of Practice for Services, Public Functions and Associations. Read here 👉 notinourname.org.uk/womens-organ...
So good to get the support from Amber Gill at the Queer Health gathering last night. Throughout our campaign, we have been boosted by confident, clear allyship just like this.
Today is #WorldSocialMediaDay! So we wanted to thank everyone who has used their online networks and social media communities to share our open letter and help get us over 100,000 signatures. We hugely value our social media followers, and love engaging with you via our social accounts 🩷
June is Pride month and now it feels more important than ever for allies to stand alongside, be a voice for and show solidarity to the LGBTQIA+ communities around us. Be PROUD of who you are and know that NION Women are by your side. NION Women 🩷 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️ #PrideMonth #ProudAllies
We were delighted to join Amanda Hollingsworth-Ellary on @nliveradio.com last week to chat about all things NION Women and why it’s more important than ever that cis women speak up in support of their trans+ siblings right now. Tune in here: player.autopod.xyz/1352880?t=14... Happy listening! 🩵🩶💛🩷
We were delighted to talk about our work alongside the tireless team at Macclesfield Pride last month and are excited to see the wonderful organisers of New Mills Pride celebrate their inaugural parade today.
This event is another great example of women of all backgrounds and identities standing together and promoting a message of solidarity not division.l 🩵🩶💛🩷
Hundreds of women came together this week to say “Not In Our Name” at the sold-out launch of the campaign group Women Against the Far Right.
We were also excited to learn about the “Your Space Too (YS2)” campaign and map, identifying trans-friendly businesses throughout the UK: www.pastel-project.co.uk/resources We look forward to working with you more in the future!
Cis people coming together to discuss how we can support and speak up for our trans+ siblings, especially in the face of legislation and policies that are causing such harm to the community.
We were so pleased to attend the #AllyshipInAction event in Nottingham on Saturday, hosted by the amazing Nottingham Woman’s Collective and the Pastel Project.
On Thursday 25th June, 11.00am-4.00pm, our friends at @TransSolidarity.bsky.social will be holding a “mass lobby”. Last year, the turnout was record-breaking, and this year they hope to do even more. Members of NION will be attending, and we would love for you to join in too. See you there! 🩵🩶💛💗
NION women call time on discrimination! A few of our intrepid collective headed to Parliament last week, to meet with MPs keen to hear more about our work and find out how many of our 100,000+ signatories they have in their constituencies.
Thank you to the wonderful Rosie Jones for proudly showing off our letter at the Rainbow Honours last night. From all those with a platform, to the MPs we met this week and the other groups all pushing back on the true causes of harm against women, we are encouraged to know we are in good company
NION Women are proud to support this essential video campaign #SomeoneIKnew, in which survivors speak up for trans+ inclusion and against the EHRC Code of Practice. Trigger Warning for the video: narratives of abuse and SA — please watch with care
Trans+ Pride London is powered by volunteers, and today is the last day to sign up to be a steward. If you’re a cis ally looking for a practical way to support the trans+ community, this is a chance to do exactly that. Sign up 👉 tinyurl.com/TPrideSignup SIGN UP CLOSES TONIGHT!
We’ve had occasional rogue signatures throughout the campaign. Having analysed the first 100k, we know it’s robust. Still tiresome to see stuff like this though. We can clean it up, we can reset the counter but the important point is we are more than our letter. Funny how people invest their time 🥱
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us pass 100,000 signatures on our open letter. Now it’s time to raise awareness of NION’s message and vision directly with MPs. This is especially important in light of last week’s updated Code of Practice from the EHRC. Now we're doing something new...
Today is International Day of Action on Women’s Health. Our first ever guest blog, written by Paws Kesby, explores why medical misogyny doesn’t stop at cis women. Read here: notinourname.org.uk/medical-misogyny-doesnt-stop-at-cis-women
Last week, the Minister for Women and Equalities submitted to Parliament an updated Code of Practice to the Equality Act, following last year’s Supreme Court ruling. NION Women stand firmly for trans inclusion. Read our full statement here: notinourname.org.uk/targeting-tr... #NotInOurName
As NION Women, we care about being a society that leaves no one behind, where everyone can feel safe and fully participate. That includes trans+ people, who have been increasingly blamed for problems they didn't cause - and who have faced growing hostility for the best part of a decade.
A lovely gathering in Macclesfield last night for @macctech.bsky.social. Hearing from @kim.town on how we’ve lost our focus in community in tech, and sharing the NION women story with a compassionate crowd was encouraging. Thanks to MyCWA and MaccPride for convening such a warm crowd 💜
We’ve been lucky to receive high-profile support since we started our campaign, and we know visibility and vocal allyship matters. It doesn’t come much higher than Sandi Toksvig, who’s done so much for women’s equality and inclusion. Thank you 🙏 notinourname.org.uk
Today, on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (#IDAHOBIT), we’re reflecting on this year’s theme: “At the Heart of Democracy.” For us, democracy means more than voting. It means believing that everyone deserves dignity, safety, freedom, and a voice in public life.
We are delighted to sign the @tgeuorg.bsky.social “In This Together” manifesto, which so beautifully upholds and promotes our values of trans-inclusive feminist solidarity
We’ll keep encouraging coverage of our work and the many women who support it through mainstream media articles like this. When so much reporting is negative, sensationalist or seeks false balance, we want our message of compassionate inclusion to be heard. www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...
Little nudge please to vote or share with anyone else who might. Our work continues, but this will hopefully highlight it later this year. Thanks again to the women who have signed our letter, supported our campaign and shown there is so much love for the trans+ community 💜 tinyurl.com/NION-Vote
