NNNS are saddened to hear that Carl Chapman passed away on Friday. Carl made a massive contribution to the Society, as a Trustee, Chairman & through the creation of the Liaison Committee (which he also chaired)- a body that helped strengthen links between NNNS and other local wildlife charities. 1/x

EVENT CANCELLATION: Winterton Dunes tomorrow (Sat 25th July). Due to an injury to one of the walk leaders and the forecast high temperatures with little shade available, this event has been cancelled - apologies for the late notice. There is a nearby walk (Horsey) planned for the following weekend.

I think the Norfolk distribution is a bit wider than that currently shown on the SRS map (this one taken directly from iRecord). Presumably down to records submitted to iRecord but not using the SRS form omitted from the Atlas (so some from before the form existed, some from iNaturalist etc).

NNNS walk: We have been given the opportunity to visit the private Barningham Estate to see the work being done by Norfolk Rivers Trust (and in return hopefully generate some wildlife records for them!) on Sat 4th July. Detailed instructions on where to meet are included on the attached poster.

During the recent NNNS research project at Broadland CP a Silver-studded Blue reintroduction was carried out (after an ant survey was carried out). The good news is that a survey this week recorded 83 SSBs in multiple heath compartments, so they are now doing well. @norfolkbutterflies.bsky.social

Yes agreed, nice find. Although previously largely coastal, the provisional soldierfly atlas from 2018 did mention that it was spreading inland, and looking at the iRecord distribution there are a few inland East Anglian dots.

NNNS has a photographic group that holds talks once a month over the winter period so that Society members with a particular interest in wildlife photography can meet. On Tues 10th March 2026 it's the last meeting of the 2025/26 season, and its a 'show your own' theme.

NNNS will have a stand at the Norwich Science Festival 2026 on Saturday 21st Feb, which is a nature themed day.
