Thought the guy in Oxfam was chancing it with the mark up on these Virago Barbara Comyns editions that I found today, but just looked up the going rate on abebooks! Wtf.
The Palm House- one of those novels where you just can’t see how the author made so much out of seemingly so little, to such astonishing effect. I also spent some of the early 1990s queuing for comedians’ autographs, thankfully not involved in the other comedian-related incidents related within.

It’s true! For a long time, I was more familiar with the nature programme than the Redford (in an excellent peacoat) film, so it took me a while to figure out.
Pop fact: dialogue from the film “this is the panic office” etc was sampled on Fitter, Happier on OK Computer, buried in the mix but credited as being from Flight of The Condor. Which, you’d have to agree, sounded somewhat different, being what T Wogan referred to as “nose flutes”.

I don’t know that one, Pollok a bit off my beat when I was at Glasgow Uni. I’ll persevere with writing about waiting, time, clocks, it feels very familiar in Notts, but I think a lot of people have forgotten it or think it’s gone. It’s just a bit dusty these days.

It reminded me: I bought a movie scrapbook at a carboot sale a few years ago. Mostly 1930s Joan Crawford, Errol Flynn etc from Picturegoer & similar mags, but Barbara Stanwyck features as wife of Robert Taylor. No idea who compiled it.
