Aim and Ignite - Fun. Some very catchy tunes in here! I do Be Calm at karaoke even though the high notes kill me haha Favorite track: Be Calm
Discovery - Daft Punk I don't know how I went this long without remembering to mention this album! If I had to pick a single album as my #1 favorite of all time, it would be hard not to pick this one. Favorite track: Voyager
Daddy's Home - St. Vincent My twin sister recommended this one to me and was really surprised when, months later, I started singing along when one of the songs came on while we were hanging out. She didn't think I'd like it as much as I did! Favorite track: Down and Out Downtown
Woman Worldwide - Justice I saw this one live, and holy shit it was awesome. It was my first concert that I went to on my own volition and not just because my parents brought me. Favorite track: Not sure!
Shakti - Shakti Virtuosic playing from all 4 band members, who fuse western jazz with Indian carnatic music. I've never heard anyone play a guitar like this. It's easy to get desensitized to virtuosity when you can see it on demand, but John McLaughlin still blows me away here. Favorite track: Joy
Promises - Floating Points, Pharaoh Sanders, and the London Symphony Orchestra Achingly beautiful. This isn't an album of songs; it's a cohesive work of multiple movements that deserves to be listened to in full. Even more striking when you learn it was Pharaoh Sanders' last work before he passed.
Melkweg - Jameszoo and Metropole Orkest This one definitely ventures into some more strange and dissonant orchestral textures, but also plenty of groovy stuff too. The drummer is fucking CRACKED. Favorite track: (crumble)
Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins So many memorable lyrics and amazing guitar tones. Billy Corgan is a phenomenally talented songwriter. Favorite track: Mayonaise
Innerspeaker - Tame Impala This album sounds just like the album cover art. Also maybe my favorite album cover art I've ever seen. Favorite track: Jeremy's Storm
You get a three-parter for this one! Steamdome, Steamdome II: The Hypogean, and Steamdome III: Beyond the End - Ola Kvernberg I'd say the best way to describe this is orchestral prog rock, like Tubular Bells. Plenty of grooves to get lost in. Favorite tracks: Caterpillar, Devil Worm, Tuxcore.
Glassworks - Philip Glass A great entry point into minimalist music. Sometimes meditative and relaxing, other times frenzied, but always mathematically precise. Favorite track: Rubric.
The Fat of the Land - The Prodigy I am a scrawny weakling but this album makes me want to get in a fight. Favorite track: Diesel Power
PetroDragonic Apocalypse - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard I grew up listening to Metallica on my dad's iPod, and I think this album brought back some of my love for thrash metal. Add some throat singing and ominous chanting in Latin, and you've got my attention. Favorite track: Motor Spirit
Spaces - Nils Frahm If you can't see Nils Frahm live, this is the next best thing. Excellent ambient/modern classical work. Feels like he's bringing you into his own little world. Favorite track: For – Peter – Toilet Brushes – More
No Hands - Joey Valence & Brae Obviously inspired by the Beastie Boys, but they still bring plenty of their own sauce. It's impossible not to smile and want to dance when listening. Favorite track: WHAT U NEED
loveless - my bloody valentine These guitar tones will melt your face off. Favorite track: Come in Alone
Tell Your Friends - Snarky Puppy Another one with no skips. Snarky Puppy has a bunch of fantastic albums, but I keep coming back to this one. Listen to the remastered version though, it's legitimately much better sounding. Favorite track: Ready Wednesday
Starship Syncopation - Cory Wong and Metropole Orkest Immaculate. Every single track is perfectly crafted to make you say "man, what a groove!" Favorite track: Chateau.
They're fucking HILARIOUS He had to have been on acid or molly or something
whenever I went clothes shopping after that, I'd think, "what in here would go well with that one thing I really liked?" The centerpiece of the outfit becomes the foundation for everything else. For me, it was this shawl I saw at a booth at a pride festival. (cont'd)
This shit is so good but so messy to eat. I wanna put it in a feed bag and strap it to my face like a horse
@meltybunnie.bsky.social saw me in the AC reg line and sketched me!
Some beautiful views from my Amtrak journey to Anthrocon from Boston :3
