Scottish arm of a global movement of millions of people working together to overcome poverty by fighting the injustices and inequalities that fuel it.
As our analysis shows and is featured here, the combined emissions from Rosebank/Jackdaw could cause enough excess heat deaths by the end of this century to wipe out the equivalent of the population of Inverness. The only course of conscience is to reject them. @stopclimatechaos.bsky.social
The proposed Rosebank and Jackdaw fields could cause enough excess heat deaths to wipe out a city the size of Inverness. And more drilling won't lower bills, with oil and gas sold on global markets. Tell your MP to act now: oxfam.org.uk/get-involved/campaign-with-oxfam/no-more-north-sea-drilling/
Big Oil is on course to rake in $45 billion in profits in 3 months. Meanwhile, Scotland is battling wildfires, communities worldwide are paying the price of climate chaos, and the UK Gov is raiding international climate finance to fund domestic spending. The money's there: just in the wrong hands.
🚍 A £2 bus fare cap is welcome. But who is really paying for it? The UK Government says it will fund cheaper fares by turning climate grants into loans for poorer countries. It's like crashing someone's car and then offering them a loan for the repairs. There is a fairer way: better tax wealth.
Westminster is taking a sledgehammer to aid spending, with a new report showing where the axe will fall. As UK aid falls to 0.3% by 2027, the Scottish Government's commitment to increase Scotland's International Development Fund by 25% matters more than ever, and should be delivered without delay.
Scotland’s climate is changing. As today's @metoffice.gov.uk report shows: 2025 was our warmest year on record. We’ve seen 100mph winds, record wildfires in the Highlands and disappearing snow. Climate action must be fast and fair: tax private jets, rule out new drilling and make polluters pay.
When disaster strikes, Scotland responds. Today at Glasgow City Chambers we joined @decscotland.bsky.social to launch the Venezuela Earthquake Appeal. Big thanks to Scot Gov for £250k in support, and thanks to UK Gov's Aid match scheme, your donation will be doubled: Please donate: www.dec.org.uk
Scotland is making some progress on climate, but there's a hidden story we're not talking about enough. New stats out today show while pollution generated inside Scotland has fallen slightly, our overall carbon footprint is rising again, driven by the things we buy and use. More: bit.ly/4fzReGp
The maths is simple. The richer you are the more you tend to pollute. If you're causing more of the problem, it's only fair you contribute more to the solution. Time for Scotland to accelerate plans for a tough tax on private jets.
Ahead of today’s Scottish Parliament #WealthTax debate, it’s clear Scotland’s tax system needs fixing. With 1 in 5 children living in poverty while the richest 10 people are worth £23bn, we must act. Replace Council Tax + fast track a tough private jet tax to 2027. It’s time to tax wealth fairly
In 1967, Lorna opened Dundee’s first Oxfam shop. Nearly 60 years later, her daughter Barbara still volunteers in our Lochee shop. “I don’t have a lot of money. But I can give my time.” As #VolunteersWeek begins, we’re celebrating the people who power our work to tackle poverty and injustice.
Great to hear @gillianmackaygreen.bsky.social from @scottishgreens.org raising the call from #TaxJusticeScotland for the First Minister to better tax wealth at #FMQs. He talked about 'potential abolition' of the Council Tax but must go further. It needs consigning to the dustbin of history ASAP.
Poverty is a political choice. So is a fairer Scotland. But it won’t happen by accident. From replacing Council Tax to tackling inequality & making polluters pay, we need bold action in year one of this new Parliament. 🔗 More on the changes we want to see scotland.oxfam.org.uk/latest-news/...
Read that again. £23 BILLION vs 1 IN 4 CHILDREN IN POVERTY This is Scotland right now. We need action at every level: * A UK tax on extreme wealth * The Scottish Government using its powers to better tax wealth and reduce poverty A fairer Scotland is possible, if political leaders choose it.
A political candidate might knock on your door soon. Don’t waste the moment. Here's what to ask them 🔽

Child poverty in Scotland has edged down but 210,000 children are still growing up without the basics. Rising bills are piling pressure on families, and poverty still hits some groups far harder than others. With elections ahead: will party leaders back fairer taxes to fund significant new action?
Scotland’s new Climate Change Plan is out, with action now, but no clear, credible path for what comes next, risking too much reliance on unproven tech like carbon capture. Faster cuts, funded fairly, mean cleaner energy, stable bills, and a fairer Scotland - something all parties should commit to.
Care matters but Scotland isn’t keeping up, and people are being pushed into poverty as a result. The new interactive Care Policy Scorecard for Scotland shows where policy is falling short and where action is needed. Explore it: ascotlandthatcares.org/scorecard #ScotlandCares
Scotland is making welcome progress in cutting child poverty, but plans to go further need to be backed by enough new pounds to match the ambition. That means more money, raised fairly, to lift more children out of poverty and unlock a better, fairer Scotland for all of us.

📚 Hands up if you remember J.R. Hartley’s famous book hunt? A modern-day version just played out in our Stirling shop. After searching for five years, Paul finally tracked down the book he’d been chasing Iona Celtic Art thanks to our patient team. A perfect #WorldBookDay story.

Halfway to net zero. But as we see in today's Climate Change Committee's report, Scotland's climate plans beyond 2030 are living on a prayer. Too much faith in fantasy future tech. Too little clarity on the cash. Climate action must be fairly funded to be feasible.
Along with 16 leading international humanitarian organisations, we are taking unprecedented legal action to protect civilians and staff. The Israeli authorities demand for a new registration system threatens to silence aid agencies and block life‑saving support.
Our volunteers are the heart of Oxfam 💚 Today at our Shop Volunteer Conference we celebrated the people who turn donated clothes into climate action, conversations into change, and community spirit into global impact. Every hour you give powers a fairer, greener, more caring Scotland. Thank you 🌍
Too many families are trapped in poverty but a fairer Scotland IS possible. Ask Scottish party leaders to help build a country with strong support for us all. Email them now: oxfam.org.uk/fairerscotland
Council Tax is wildly unfair, stuck in the 90s and Scots are done with it. 📊 New polling for #TaxJusticeScotland shows just 2% want to keep Council Tax as it is. We need to see urgent reform in the next Parliament. With the Scottish election ahead, parties must commit to a fairer replacement 🎥👇
Big win: Scotland’s getting a private jet tax ✈️ Here’s what it means, and what comes next.
🚨 BREAKING: at today’s #ScotBudget the Scottish Government announced a new tax on private jets, something we've been campaigning for. The true test will be how tough the tax is: it must punitively punishes the pockets of private jet passengers raising millions for green projects.
