61 years ago, the Voting Rights Act was signed into law—enacting a pillar of civil rights. From the courts to the Congress, the GOP has repeatedly fought to gut this landmark legislation ever since. It's past time to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and ensure the right to vote is protected.

Yesterday, I had the joy of joining the incredible students and staff at Booker T.’s Freedom School for Harambee where they filled the room with songs and smiles. Their boundless optimism was a reminder that our mission has always been, and will always be, For The Children.

39 years ago today, I stood on the House Floor and took the oath to represent San Francisco in Congress for the first time. There has been no greater official honor for me than to serve San Franciscans in the People’s House, and I am deeply grateful for their trust.

As we mark the anniversary of the 19th Amendment's passage in Congress, we remember that freedom was not expanded because women waited for it—but because they acted. They remind us our work is not done and each generation must continue the fight to build a more perfect union.

By supporting Ukraine, we deter aggression everywhere, combat authoritarianism and reaffirm that the United States does not abandon those who fight for freedom. While some have been unwilling to stand up to Vladimir Putin, the Congress must. Tonight, House Democrats did.

As we mark the 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, we remember the courageous students and citizens who stood up for freedom and paid the ultimate price. Their voices were met with tanks—but their call for democracy endures.

During #PrideMonth we celebrate love, freedom and the courage to live authentically. From San Francisco to communities across our nation, we honor the trailblazers and activists who expanded the promise of equality and pledge to carry on the work they began. Happy #Pride!
