I watch ants carry rain from one city to another.
I take an example.
I put a cloud in a tote bag.
I notice how the north wind descends from a black limousine.
It takes my hat
and throws it into the past.

Details

Earth and laughter.
These are what dolls are made of.
Nothing like rice pudding
or sleep.
Just emotions;
perfectly flawed. Sunny.
Like that girl holding a kitten.
Or the thief who broke into your flower
shop
last weekend.

Too late

After the tempest, they delay the trains.
I look for you everywhere in the Gare du Nord
but you aren't on the beautiful vampire list.
Still, I have not stopped raining,
so I write your name on seven napkins
to be left in seven cafes.
But you sleep far away
in a cornfield of poppies—
little ladybug, dreaming,
dreaming.

Comma

I take the daffodils
and give them mouth-to-mouth.
The radio cuts to a music station.
The rain stops.
If I had to choose a new star, it would be Betelgeuse.
If you proposed to me, I would refuse.
I know (,) that July is the right month for dancing,
so I give up everything
and jump off the knife's edge.

Need

We are not alive so much longer.

An arm is crushed between a body and a hospital bed railing.

I cannot love and not love you.

This is my reeducation, a metaphysical conceit, a solution to a love problem.

It's a new truck.

It's not beautiful.

Its parts don't combine but they stand close together.

We choose to sit like a good person at a good table eating a good sandwich.

Our different views taken together make clear how complicated this is.

Your loneliness meets mine online.

The situation is discovered while we make it.

I meet myself down the road.

I ask myself to give myself.

My intention is to work but the work has no intention.

You photograph the photograph and then photoshop it.

You go to the paint store, the drug store, the cannabis dispensary, and buy what you need.

Who Would I Like To Be?
[Sleep Talk]

When I grow up, I want to be a supernova. A thank you note for rain refusing to age. // I will strive to become a window that looks out onto a lake. A dream that changes with the seasons. A mood board for cursed princes and frogs. // In the future, I will choose happiness. Because happiness is a beautiful woman wearing a red scarf. // Now I am a fallen leaf, but, one day, I will be rich and famous. As famous as a huge, shining mirror, a deep well, or a rose that screams in the wind. // In the future, I will commit to becoming an infinite number of doors. Doors to the moon playing hide-and-seek with a bag of singing ships and cuckoos.
