The first 2 pots of dahlias have started to flower, another 98 or so to go 😃

Someone we know just flew over our house, we got a message from the passenger to look up, so I took a photo, & managed to include a great shot of one of the swifts 😃
Update on the crosses, pollen from H. reginae & Amaryllis failed to pollinate S. formosissima, & pollen from S. formosissima failed to pollinate Amaryllis. However, H. reginae pollen has set seed on Amaryllis (photo 1), & pollen from Amaryllis & S. formosissima have set seed on H. reginae (photo 2)
I’m growing cucamelons (Melothria scabra) for the first time, 1st photo.They produce separate male & female flowers as shown in the 2nd & 3rd photos. Excited to see that the first fruit are starting to develop, 4th photo.
What an amazing Gardener’s World. Adam Frost was superb, the first time I can recall having a tutorial on hard landscaping. So many other exciting aspects.
Thistle flower with bee & 4 hover flies. Has anyone else noticed just how many hover flies there are this summer? I’ve never seen so many in the garden.

How it started, now it’s going, the 8” thick concrete steps are gone, now it’s time to create a shady patio.

Geranium Splish Splash, a fabulous flower caused by random transposon excision from an anthocyanin gene, as revealed by the restoration of pigmentation when the excision occurs in a petal cell. Elsewhere in the plant, the impact of such random cell-specific epigenetic events remain hidden.
A swift fly bye, one of several dining on the insert above our garden this evening. No insecticides on the ground means insects in the air.
I can understand why David Hockney came to the Yorkshire Wolds to paint, it has just such stunning countryside.

The window restoration project has recommenced. I completed the first of the two bays last autumn, the weather is now good enough to start on the second. A 5 x 5 pane bay window originally installed in 1831, as a second hand unit from a shop in Bridlington Old Town. It’s going to take a few weeks.
