It was very wholesome and made me re-think the idea that conferences should just be back-to-back papers. There was no pressure particularly to get involved in the practical stuff, but mostly ppl really went for it. Here are my origami outputs...

My latest mathematical affectation is going to be using "trigon" in place of "triangle".

I have found a ruder attempted refutation of immaterialism than the stone-kicking.

Little jumper for the little 2yr old fella. Though, not so little, as I had cast off but then had to re-open and throw on another 12 rows to make it a decent length on him. All leftover wool, short sleeves for the summer etc. Shoulder stain already. #knitsky

The childcare/creche bit remains a joke. How many versions of this article will we need to read before they do something major?

"If we want a modern workforce, childcare infrastructure must be treated as economic infrastructure. At the moment it is treated as a personal financial burden or a welfare cost. Ireland spends just 0.16 per cent of GDP on early years care, compared to an OECD average of 0.9 per cent."

It would take a full bottle of wine for me to get through all the reasons I find this hilarious. Saying someone "lives like the ambassador of the kingdom of ridiculous notions" is just an immaculate piece of abuse. Big Cork energy to it, also.

In a review of a 2024 biography of Mondrian, The New York Times book critic Dwight Garner described him as a "deeply eccentric man" who "lived like an ambassador from the kingdom of ridiculous notions" and who "had no sense of humor and rarely smiled". He was a follower of phrenology and spiritualism and fad diets and "didn’t believe in ice cubes because cold food was bad for the health".

How have I never heard the term "bride's chair" before? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bride%2... I have spent so much time working on Byrne's one. I even made my own one in pottery class and my mam loved it so much she managed to get someone to frame and mount it on an appropriately printed page...

Screenshot if my Garmin app report if my lunchtime swim. It notes the overall distance and that it was a pool swim and has a notification showing a "New Personal Record" saying "congratulations on achieving a new personal best". I put an "amazed" emoji beside that.

And, I suppose, my sense is that Berkeley may have been a little optimistic in thinking that "jolly prelate" was what the average neutral observer thought of him in the first instance. It's pretty flattering, at least! Here it is, anyway, with Alt. Enjoy!
