Nap Comix #415 The heatwave got a bit much here so we ended up putting Henry to bed downstairs on a little mattress. I'd stay with him to make sure he was OK, whilst trying to get a little work done. Strange times! #NapComix

Nap Comix #414 Growing :) #NapComix

Panel 1)
I had to put some slides together for a talk I was giving about Nap Comix at a comic show.

Panel 2)
I went right back to the beginning of the project, and took examples from all over the three years I've been doing this.

Panel 3)
The strips were always meant to document Henry growing up, of him changing and becoming his own person. I also want him to be able to read these comics when he is older and see how loved and cherished he is.

Panel 4)
One thing that I hadn't counted on, or even thought about, though, was how much they document me as a mother, and how much I have changed over these three years.

Panel 5)
As I go through the strips, I read about how anxious and scared I was, how much I was relying on books and google for the answers to problems that, in hindsight, were not problems worth worrying about. But back at the beginning I think it's normal to worry about every tiny thing.

Panel 6)
I read on and see myself become a much more confident mum. A silly, imaginative, boundary-holding mum. I see myself relying less on books and google, and reaching out to friends and communities instead.

Panel 7)
I accidentally charted my own growth, as well as my son's. And I love that I will be able to look back on that when I'm older too.
