I baked rolls this morning and if I could share this divine aroma with you I would
And I miss a lot of posts from friends because I still don't have control over those 1 in 10 screens from my friends. If I want to catch up w/friends on Instagram, I have to pay an 80-90% attention tax to Meta, and I'm still haven't seen them all. (Thanks to the PSU library for the white boards!)
I knew going in that I lost some control over what I consume, I didn't realize how extreme the loss was. Basically, 80% of my feed was fed to me by Meta. This included ads & threads/reels carousels. I'm including reposts in this group (about 1 in 5). The other 20% were from accounts I followed.
So, I SCIENCED THE HECK out of my "let's check on friends" 'gram sesh. Images: The "data" I threw together in a 20 min whiteboard session . My inner data viz is cringing, but hey, I mostly want to raise questions & poke at your gray matter. i.e. message > detailed accuracy and presentation
I interneted like it is 2006 and wrote a blog! On my commitment to social media FEAST for the next two weeks! mindonfire.com/2026/07/14/s...
"Your bread will sing to you as it cools": I dunno but I expected some kind of angelic GBBO choir, not this giant alien insect mandible clacking
Omar El Akkad's One Day, Everyone will have Always Been Against This has won the National Book Award. This is a deserving, necessary win. His words need to be on all of our minds and in all of our hearts. "When it mattered, who sided with justice and who sided with power?"
Since childhood, I've been sensitive to others' emotions & shrunk myself, deferred needs & reshaped my life + personality to make room. If you're like me, I rec these books: For help understanding root causes: Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents For help changing: Stop People Pleasing
This was part of the deleted Instagram post. I support what should be a 100% uncontroversial message.
And I ate ripe huckleberries like a bear prepping for hibernation
It's amazing how much experience we can pack into life: this past weekend I saw: - a double rainbow - 2 yearlings, a marmot, baby squirrel - 2 sets of mountain lion tracks - a meteor - B-17 crash wreckage - dripping moss, forest matriarchs, cascades, high mountain passes & crept into an old mine
It's like this everywhere in the valley. When you climb, any bend in the trail can lead to a surprise stream crossing or cascade.
I have been off bluesky and under blue skies for most of the past week, in my beloved Olympic National Park. Can you believe that this is from the eastern side, the rain shadow? We hiked thru two river valleys with giant evergreens towering over unending, rolling, tilted fields of ferns & moss.
There may be only 2 of these in the city of Portland right now and I managed to get my hands on one! When I was born, my first stuffed critter was a Moomintroll. Snufkin is my hero. I couldn't *not* buy this! #moomin #hobonichi #stationerysky
Some things I don't need to buy. It just makes me happy to know that they exist, like this coin purse shaped like Snufkin's hat on Etsy: www.etsy.com/listing/4346...
Here it is, fresh from the oven. I'm super proud of this, mainly because 90% of it was from CSA veggies. I have Remy the Rat to thank for the gift of loving eggplants and tomatoes, two vegetables I grew up hating.
So, when you increase the veggies by 50% and also switch the mandoline setting from .25in to 1/16th, you get six times the slices as last time and it takes a full episode of Alien:Earth to assemble your ratatouille. And yes, this is A Remy Ratatouille in progress, but not The Remy Ratatouille.
My gift (or tease?) to anyone who's baking in Portland this weekend. Or in the Northern Hemisphere. (from our trip to Hokkaido in February, from a park in Sapporo)
I know how helpless you all must feel--I feel it, too. But we *have* to keep trying. If you do only one thing today, please consider following this link and reading the fewer than 1000 words of text on the Palestinian-led Boycott, Sanctions and Divest movement: bdsmovement.net/what-bds
It's time for a soothing mountain stream. From my last backpack, Three Fingered Jack, Oregon's Cascade Range.
Welp, Nabisco says it's Halloween season, so it must be true
Well, crap. Tested positive today. Mild head-cold symptoms. I've communicated through the convention discord and with other servers I'm on and text and email, hoping to reach folks in case you spent time with me, especially on Sunday.
I'm at the Clarion West table from 12-1 if you want to say hi! I've also got Japanese gummies, fountain pen ink samples and Ghibli/Moomin fan art stickers! Feel free to stop me in the halls, though I may be running to panels.
