NEXT WEEK: PennDOT announced the following construction projects in our area: Monday, July 20, at 8 p.m. through Friday, July 24, construction will begin on a $6.2 million project to resurface and repair a 4.4-mile section of U.S. 422 in Limerick and Upper Providence townships, Montgomery County.

Montgomery County is asking residents to take an online survey and provide biking feedback to help update the Bike Montco 1.5 on-road bicycle plan. The county is focusing on safer routes, better connections and the growing role of e-bikes and e-scooters in our community.

- Increases fully fund the student teacher stipend program based upon projection need ($40 million). - $42.5 million will go toward Grow PA Scholarships. - $20.7 million will go toward targeted grants for the school safety and security fund.

- In this budget, $494.5 million will go toward early intervention (ages 0-3), which serves as a 9.1% increase. - Special education will each receive a $55 million increase to funding. - Career & technical education will be funded at $154 million, a 6.9% increase.

- $565M to provide the third installment of adequacy and equity funding for all public schools in PA. - $60M+ in basic education funding this year for the 4 public school districts in our own community.

Today, July 2, marks the 62nd anniversary of when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed into law. This landmark piece of legislation helped end segregation in public places and prohibited employment discrimination based on race, sex, religion and national origin.

I am deeply saddened to learn that one our Pennsylvania State Police Troopers, Michael Pahira, died in the line of duty this morning while performing a traffic stop. This is a terrible tragedy, and I offer my sincere condolences to Michael Pahira’s family and friends during this difficult time.

My staff member, Crystal, stopped by Montgomery County’s America 250 Birthday Bash yesterday, a celebration to kick off our nation’s upcoming 250th birthday and Valley Forge’s 50th anniversary this Saturday. There was great music, food trucks and a lot of fun festivities!

Reminder! The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program deadline has been EXTENDED until December 31, 2026. This program, which is eligible to older adults and people with disabilities 18 years or older, supports homeowners and renters across PA with rebate ranging from $380 to $1,000.

My bill to Prevent Unnecessary Prosecution of Trafficked Children (HB 2243) passed the PA House today with bipartisan support and a final vote of 198-4. House Bill 2243 focuses on protecting and supporting minors who are victims of human trafficking.

I’m so proud of our career study students Emily and Bo who graduated from Methacton High School last week, and Nyle, Owen and Sam who recently graduated from Perkiomen Valley High School! We’re so excited to see what’s in store for them as they embark on this new journey in life.
