Award-winning TTRPG designer/idiot His Majesty the Worm Out Now!
Well, goodbye ENNIES voting season. I hope I was at least funny. We'll return to your regular schedule of RPG hot takes tomorrow. Peach, yoju, whiskey, champagne. Unnamed cocktail.
ENNIES voting ends today. And sure - *you've* already cast your vote for Designing Dungeons as Best Online Content. But have you gotten a friend to vote? A lover? vote.ennie-awards.com/vote/2026/in...
17 years ago I married this gremlin. I asked Jess what they wanted for our anniversary. "For you to win the ENNIE," they said. Wow! That's why we've been together so long. Vote Designing Dungeons for Best Online Content to say "Happy Anniversary!" vote.ennie-awards.com/vote/2026/
"Why should I check out the Castle Automatic?" Because we had Battle Nuns before Deathbringer (and were the first to do so, DO NOT FACT CHECK THIS CLAIM) www.exaltedfuneral.com/pages/the-ca...
Here is some dungeon setting inspiration if ever I've seen it. The Dungeon Design Course talks through different dungeon features:traps, treasure, lore, entrances, guardians. It's up for an ENNIE. Vote here if you haven't! vote.ennie-awards.com/vote/2026/
Wayspell.Blogspot.Com maybe it's the beer talking but you got a butt that won't quit. FIVE DOLLARS?!
Although this section of the hexcrawl is lengthy, don't miss the 20-room dungeon buried in it - a watch-tower inhabited by a trollish family. I particularly like that their random activities include a troll song.
The entrance to the Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave is what a dungeon entrance should look like: fantastic, beautiful, a threshold space between the surface and the underworld. The Designing Dungeons Course talks about building cool entrances for your dungeon in chapter 4! dungeons.hismajestytheworm.games
The Designing Dungeons Course has two sample dungeons from its co-authors. I wrote a dungeon, The Shrines of the Lower Ossuary, for HIS MAJESTY THE WORM. As thanks for the ENNIES nomination, I've made it FREE while voting lasts: July 10-19th! riseupcomus.itch.io/shrines-of-t...
Making your own dungeon can feel intimidating, but it's just a series of discrete steps. To help make the joy of writing your own dungeon available for everyone, I wrote the Designing Dungeons Course. Please vote it #1 for BEST ONLINE CONTENT in this year's ENNIES! vote.ennie-awards.com/vote/2026/
I picture the saints answering prayers in Dolmenwood if you pray at their shrines a bit like the Terry Gilliam illustrations in Monty Python. "Yes, hello. Wot? Alright, one spell coming up."
It reminds me of what I was trying to get at with the camping rules from Lore - the Lord of the Rings Adventure Game hack. Each boon you have, increase the dice size rolled to regain health For each bane, decrease the dice size. riseupcomus.blogspot.com/2026/04/lore...
The rest requirements in Fatherfog are very elegant and I like them a lot
As of this week, thanks to industrious adherents of the Worm, there is now roll20 support for HIS MAJESTY THE WORM! If you create a game, you will see the official adventurer's record sheet with automations. If you need help with roll20's native card functionality, drop in to the Worm discord!
Oh, goddammit it. "Dragons are just bugs, I guess" is gonna be a thing for me, isn't it?
