Seeing 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' this weekend with my good friend Mike Fasolo, and missing our late friend Dan Digiacomo. We three saw 'Spider-Man' together opening weekend at the Palisades Center in West Nyack, NY 24 years ago. Here we are at Rockefeller Center, December 2001...
YouTube listing my "Forgotten Favorites", but they're all albums I've listened to within the last month... 🤔
Y'all remember when clear cassettes felt like the future? My first was 'Tao' by Rick Springfield (yeah, I'm a dork, and I still dig the album). I still remember the way they smelled.
This comicbook, now in my small collection, hit newsstands July 21, 1970: 'The Amazing Spider-Man' 89. Fun fact: the month on the cover of comics (and magazines) back then wasn't the month it was released, but the month it was to be taken off the newsstand if unsold.
I'm having a tough time today, with the fact that 1986 was 40 years ago. Just a few of the albums from 1986 in my library...
Because what goes around comes around, if you see this, share a circle, a disk, something round.
Singing along with my late Uncle Jim's 1974 album this past month has improved my vocals. I'm not saying I'm a good singer, but I'm a better singer than I was a month ago. 😃
Just messing around... Silver Surfer. #SilverSurfer #NorrinRadd #DigitalArt #MarvelComics #JackKirby #ThePowerCosmic
New logo (designed a while back) for the upcoming 'Violence Against Violence' comicbook by Lee Loughridge (writer/colorist) and Danijel Zezelj (artist), with lettering by me. A dark story about struggling siblings set against the backdrop of the early '90s hardcore/straight edge scene in NY/NJ.
Did you know, I've lettered four YA graphic novels for Disney? Three Twisted Tale books: 'Part of Your World', 'Straight on Till Morning', and 'Almost There', and most recently, 'The Owl House: The Ling-Lived King'.
Favorite non-Trek performance by a Star Trek star? Leonard Nimoy as Dr. William Bell in FRINGE, or Kate Mulgrew as Red in ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK.
Brothers Sid & Marty Krofft entertained, frightened, and delighted countless Gen X kids on Saturday morning TV. We lost Marty in 2023, and we've just lost Sid. Rest in peace, sirs! Thank you for the fun-scary stories (especially LAND OF THE LOST)!
After 10 years and 60 issues, I am passing lettering duties for MONSTRESS off to Jackie Marzan (@daifukumochi82.bsky.social)! You may have seen her lettering in 'Dust to Dust', 'The Tin Can Society' (Image), or 'Anito' (Kid Heroes). Her first issue of MONSTRESS is 61, available April 22!
Been listening to the new albums by Boy Hits Car and Story of the Year this month, like it's 2006...
I like all Star Trek. Even bad Star Trek. And yes, even your favorite Star Trek has bad episodes. Yes, even DS9. 😃 The new series STARFLEET ACADEMY is pretty great already. 🖖🏻
“Show me a comic you loved when you were 13, that’s all I need to know about you” - Brad Meltzer
Fun, hand-lettered sound effect I did the other day. Fun fact: usually, the comicbook writer comes up with the sound effects (SFX), as was the case here, but some writers will ask me to make up my onomatopoeia. And yes, I do sound out the SFX as I work. 😊
I just realized that two of my favorite comfort movies open with a red biplane: THE KID (Bruce Willis, Spencer Breslin) and SECONDHAND LIONS (Robert Duvall, Michael Caine, Haley Joel Osment), and it may be the same plane! The latter features one of my favorite performances by Robert Duvall.
Letterer Appreciation Day! Each September 1st — the birthday of legendary letterer Gaspar Saladino — we celebrate the vital contributions letterers make to the comic book industry!
ESCAPE is out! The design for title & credits in slide 1 is based on Rick asking for something akin to Joe Kubert war comics. Designed in Illustrator, weathered in Photoshop ("ESCAPE" is not a font). Daniel draws a lot of the sounds effects himself, so when I do them, I try to emulate his style.
Some recent hand-drawn sound effects from various comics I’ve lettered.
