Got my #worldcon schedule for @laworldcon.bsky.social ! I have to miss it in person but they gave me a lovely virtual schedule full of panels with delightful people. Also an online reading and an online table talk. I think table talks port really well to virtual spaces! Looking forward to it.
Got my Shirley Jackson Awards finalist stone! It passed Zimmy's sniff test but he said not to throw it because it's too hot to chase things.
This is not a momentary state. The overdog generally prefers to be on top of things. As seen in this photo and in my profile pic. The underdog, meanwhile, burrows under blankets and pillows as a heat-seeking terrier must. They only trade places at night, when the overdog becomes an under-bed monster
We actually successfully grew melons for the first time ever! Collective Woman melons. They turn yellow when ripe, are a little bigger than softballs, & taste like a slightly funky honeydew. According to Wikipedia each plant grows an average of 3 melons. We picked 2 and there is a 3rd almost ready.
Swamp rose mallow hibiscus decided this beautiful morning was finally time to bust out in bloom.
I saw #Supergirl and the women who played Ruthye and Kara did a good job but also I must commend the Gunn vision of DC again on having created a computer generated dog that looks and acts exactly like my dog.
Aw. Sprocket has diabetes, which makes it more difficult for his temperature to regulate. Which sucks because all he wants is to bake in the sun like a lizard.
New Korean and Japanese editions of my collection Lost Places. The covers are both terrific. I didn't get to write to my Japanese translator to apologize but I got to apologize in person to Seohyon Jung for giving her the daunting task of translating "Where Oaken Hearts Do Gather."
Yes to all of that, but dogs terrified of storms are the most pathetic things imaginable.
Also, if my face looks weird I decided the dramatic finale of my week teaching Clarion would be walking straight into a glass wall. The cleaning staff at our dorm building did impeccable work. I'm still only eating soft foods three days later but I think I get to keep my teeth.
Sprocket, meanwhile, is a wise old man, content to be next to me for optimum belly rubs.
Zimmy's response to my monthlong absence is to make sure I can't leave the couch. He's not wrong in thinking that this is what we both need.
Zim is in his thundershirt and snood, with his favorite TV show blasting and he's still lying on my arm with his face in the corner of the couch.
I arrived at the airport way too early because it was raining when I checked out of the hotel and I didn't feel like getting soaked. Ask me anything.
First day of @fantsticon.bsky.social in Copenhagen! Here's @foxesandroses.bsky.social being interviewed on stage by Tobias Backman.
I trust you on food! So far today I've had that pictured bun with cheese, a cardamom bun, two coffees, and then split three savory vegetarian pies and three empanadas between the three of us.
Made it to Copenhagen for @fantsticon.bsky.social and a magnificent breakfast. Fun fact: a toddler can actually scream "let me out! I don't want to be here anymore!" at the top of his lungs for the entirety of a transatlantic flight.
My porch, mostly, with a shout-out to the porch at Wildacres where I'm lucky enough to get to read on occasion.
When you had an itch on one side of your face but it just rained and/or you want to cosplay as Two-Face's dog and/or you're auditioning for Jekyll & Hyde on Broadway.
