The 2SLGBTQ- positive kids press I founded and run, Flamingo Rampant, sent books to Broadway today for No Book Ban’s activation at John Proctor Is The Villian, giving away challenged and banned books. So glad to be there with Metatron’s Children!

In my open palm are two individually wrapped fruit flavoured hard candies, one green and one purple, and a flat pinkish-grey rock with an interesting pattern of lightly quartz-flecked small circles. Somebody drew me at my show tonight and it’s so cool you guys:

A sharpie drawing has been made of a page from a theatrical program for the show The First Jew In Canada - A Trans Tale, and the page is mostly thanks to my friends and family. On the program the artist has sketched me in jeans and a button up shirt with a vest, one hand in my pocket and the other gesturing with a microphone; he has also drawn in my beard and glasses to suggest a face. Policies and laws that deny transgender kids recognition, inclusion, support and access to gender affirming healthcare have been passed in many U.S. States as well as the Canadian Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Parents of trans kids in states and provinces where anti-trans policies and laws have been adopted and those who live in 'safe places for now but fear this changing are understandably very concerned about the safety and wellbeing of their kids. Anti-trans laws and policies are not supported by evidence but they signal to the public that transgender kids are an appropriate target for hostility and exclusion. Scholarly research indicates that best practices for the well-being of transgender kids (and cisgender kids too) include the right of all children to gender self-determination, the importance of family support and advocacy, the appropriateness of institutional support and inclusion, and access to affirming healthcare for kids who need it.
The purpose of this webinar is to provide parents of trans kids with resources to help you understand the current political moment and support and advocate for your kids.

Rescued swan chicks armed with thermoses and surfboards
Conservationists say it's important to look after birds when the cold snap bites the most. A baby swan that was frozen to death on an icy Reykjavik pond was rescued over the weekend by conservationists who learned of the chick's plight on Facebook.

Langenberger, who was visiting Reykjavik, was tipped off about the chick and immediately set out on a rescue mission.
The first task was to check if the bird was actually stuck and not just sleeping. It turned out to be stuck, so the next step was to ensure safety on the ice during the rescue. So Kerstin and her friend set off armed with thermoses and surfboards, in case the ice gave way.
It's important to consider the birds in such severe frosts.
The rescue reportedly went very well. By massaging the feathers with hot water, the chick was freed in three minutes. Kerstin said he was happy to be free and flew away as soon as he was freed.

Kerstin says it's important to keep an eye on the birds in the freezing cold weather. Many of them rely on human food, but it's also important to keep an eye out for any of them getting stuck on the ice, as no one is specifically looking into such rescues.
