Organic heirloom seed farm and pollinator sanctuary 🌻🐝🦋💚🐞🐛🌎🐌🍄🟫 Newton, Iowa 🇺🇸💙 Shop seeds here: All photos are ours unless otherwise stated. 🚫AI
The heavy fog collected on all the spiderwebs this morning and turned the bushes into diamond crusted tapestries 💎🕸️ #nature #naturephotography #peaceful 🌱💚
Our pollinator sanctuary is geared towards native species, but I’m still happy knowing it’s contributing to someone’s honey nearby 🐝 🍯 #gardensky #bloomscroll #bees #honey #nature 🌱💚
Could also be Mexican bean beetle or bean leaf beetle- they’re typically on the underside of leaves instead of the tops like Japanese beetles. Have you seen anything that look like these?
It’s too hot and too smoky to work outside so I decided to give the indoor kiddos some much needed TLC 🪴 I get so focused on the farm during the growing season, I often forget to water them 😅 #plants #houseplants #solarium #ADHD #botanical
Same flower, just four hours apart. Chinese yard long bean flowers are ephemeral but beautiful 🌱💚🌸 #gardensky #naturephotography #bloomscroll #smallbusiness
Can you guess what these are? Hint: that’s a common rue plant. #gardening #conservation #entomology #bugsky #nature #ecosystem 🌱💚
Victory! It’s been a challenge getting the evening primrose to bloom because the deer have eaten it back to nubs twice this season. I’m trying a new type of deterrent that seems to be working so far 🤞 #gardening #deer #nativeplants #bloomscroll 🌱💚
While on the subject of pairings for the back of the garden- hollyhock and sweet Joe pye weed are another good one. This area only gets about 5 hours of direct sun per day but they certainly don’t mind 🌱💚🌸 #gardening #gardensky #gardentips #gardeninspo #nativeplants
If you’re looking for something taller to border the back of the garden, rose mallow and Culver’s root make an excellent perennial duo. And bonus: they’re both native to the U.S. and will grow in part shade to full sun 🌱💚🌸 #gardening #nativeplants #gardenideas #gardeninspo #gardentips
all my posts from the past few days have disappeared, just *poof* So if you can see this please hit that react button. Cosmos for tax 🌱💚🌸
A common question I get about yellow spotted bee balm is “why is it called yellow if the petals are pink?” It’s because those pink parts aren’t actually petals- they’re bracts at the base of the flowering part. The spotted yellow bits are the actual flower. #gardentips #botany #nativeplants 🌱💚🌸
Interesting night ⛈️ No tornadoes at least but plenty of flood warnings. Our rain gauge is maxxed out already and there’s more storms coming. Love the rain, just wish it was a little more spread out lol 🌱💚 #weather #midwest #iowa #summerstorm
The most classic duo- rudebeckia and echinacea. These varieties are Indian Summer and Tennessee, respectively. #gardening #nativeplants #wildflowers 🌱💚
Can you smell this picture? I have a bunch of basil currently drying in the big dehydrator and my house smells ✨AMAZING✨ #gardening #herbs #basil #foodie #aromatherapy 🌱💚
My camera lens wasn’t dirty, it’s just that humid outside 🥵 BUT this year’s black sunflowers are putting on quite the show! #gardening #sunflower #bloomscroll #gardenideas #smallbusiness 🌱💚🌻
Happy gotcha day to Kinley, aka Tinny, aka The Duke of Borkington. His previous owner dumped him at the ARL because he shed too much fur (true story) and I’m so glad she did! He’s the goodest, sweetest boy and took to livestock guardianship with zero training 🐶🐾❤️ #dogsky #greatpyrenees #ARL #dogs
Left the windows down on my car overnight and this little cutie took advantage of it. It’s about the size of a sesame seed, this is the best I could manage with my phone camera 🕷️🕸️ (Yes, it was safely relocated to the garden) #spider #bugsky #orbweaver 🌱💚
You, uh… got a little something stuck to your face there 😆 #gardening #entomology #caterpillar #butterfly #cute #bugsky #bluesky #notpolitics 🐛🦋🌱💚
I am absolutely in love with this heritage (heirloom) wheat from the Netherlands called Utrecht Blue. It hasn’t even come into its full blue color yet and it’s already gorgeous 🌾💙 #gardening #basketweaving #mothernature #smallbusiness
We haven’t had monarch caterpillars since the 2020 derecho destroyed our brood. To see them finally coming back is an indescribable joy 🦋 #gardening #bugsky #caterpillar #butterfly #conservation #nature 🌱💚
To all the newbie gardeners feeling like you aren’t doing anything right- just know I’m a seasoned professional and this dropped squash seed in the walkway is bigger and healthier than the ones I intentionally planted and tended 🤷♀️ #gardening #gardentips #nature #plants #ope #ohwell 🌱💚
As much as I love running the farm, sometimes I just need a day spent at the lake hunting for treasures. #beachcombing #lake #shelling #selfcare #mentalhealth #nature #photography 🌱💚
Happy first day of Summer! ☀️ #summersolstice #litha #gardening #bloomscroll #smallbusiness #nature #sunset
A delightful side effect of breeding black sunflowers is how they’re developing darker stems and foliage too. How cool would it be if I could achieve a fully purple plant with black flowers? 💚🌱 #gardening #bloomscroll #horticulture #nature #smallbusiness
What does Juneteenth have to do with gardening? Black and enslaved farmers, landscapers, gardeners and horticulturists have made a huge impact on everything from how we farm to what plants we grow. Okra is just one of many examples. #juneteenth #gardening #history 💚🌱
It’s Pollinator Week! 🐝🦋 When most people think bees, they picture honey bees and fuzzy butt bumblebees. But there’s over 4,000 species of native bees in North America alone, and little guys like this striped sweat bee often get overlooked. #pollinatorweek #bees #nature #gardening #conservation 💚🌱
I picked up these cherry caramel phlox seeds on pure impulse in February and I’m so glad I did! If they do well overwinter and stay true to color I might just add them to the seed catalog 💚🌱
